President Elect's telephone call to President of Taiwan

^ Indeed. As president-elect, he has a chance to show Americans what kind of president he will be for the next 4 years. So far, he's not putting on a very good show, and he's taking it to the world stage.

Very true. Just imagine the damage he'll cause when he is actually sworn in.

So far he has fumbled his way through the first few weeks without demonstrating that he has a clue what he's doing.

His speech about Carrier was a total embarrassment, including the flub with 'euphanisim'...he is emboldening men like Duterte while pissing off potential allies and partners, he has totally failed in separating his business interests from the national interests and he tweets out the most idiotic things ad nauseum.

I despair.

And yet we're supposed to all act surprised.

Borowitz nails it>

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In an Oval Office meeting that White House aides described as “friendly but strained,” President Obama politely asked President-elect Donald Trump to wait until he is officially sworn in to begin destroying the world.

According to the aides, Obama said that, while he understood that Trump was eager to create potentially cataclysmic diplomatic crises around the world, tradition dictated that he wait until he is actually President to do so.

Obama cited the example of George W. Bush, who waited until he took the oath of office before wreaking destruction on a massive scale.

Given that Trump has fours years to wreck the world...maybe he could wait until January.

^ And of course, we aren't surprised by your kneejerk support for your guy.

But the background to this call is as murky as some of us thought.

We have TrumpCo. trying to do hotel deals, him being manipulated by the very horrible John Bolton because he doesn't have a clue about the world, his juvenile refusal of nay backgrounding or guidance from the State Department, and, of course, his usual lying when he found out that he was being mocked and derided for the call.

As many of us suspected all along, he will be easily led by people with their own narrow and often destructive agenda, which in the past has led to disastrous consequences for the US and the world (see Halliburton and BushCo. and the Bush Doctrine).

Instead of trying to learn anything, he will blunder along, making himself and the US look capricious and unstable....dangerous in the world of global diplomacy.

And, as we see,,,every time he finds out that he has embarrassed himself, he'll tweet up a storm and try to double down.

And I am not surprised by your opposition. All of this bitching and moaning from the Clinton supporters is reeking of sour grapes and in case you didn't figure it out in the election, this is not helping your standing with the electorate that decided the election. This type of spoiled brat-type whiny behavior instead just pushes people further away from the Democratic Party. They were already alienated enough as it was with the DNC's arrogance this entire election cycle, but keep it up.

Never knew China was such an ally to us that we needed to bow down to China and do their every whim.

One does not need to be a Clinton supporter to object to what Trump is doing to the United States and to the world. Your hatred of Clinton is making you blind and deaf to Trump's actions and words. Unlike you, we can already see the damage he is doing and has already done, and the game hasn't even started yet.

It is amazing how stupid so many people are with respect to foreign policy.

It isn't about China being a 'friend' or not.

It is about how foreign policy is set by the legislative and the executive branch.

All of you who are cheering on the unilateral 'in your face' approach by Trump are missing the fact that in thumbing his nose at standing agreements, he is basically acting like a dictator already.

His enemies will be America's enemies and the people who can do the most for him will be America's friends and allies.

As has been noted, you are so blinded by your passion for this man that he is above criticism.

And enough with this driving people away from the Democrats.

There is already buyers' remorse with Drumpf and just to remind you once again.....he didn't win the popular vote.

Says who? Clinton supporters? His popularity level has risen since the election, in case you hadn't noticed.

I thought we were looking for tough leaders to stand up to other nations. At least that was what I was told from the Hillary camp. So someone does ... and this is the result.

Sour grapes and hypocrisy at its best.

:rotflmao:

Trump isn't tough.

He's just a mouthy boyman who caves when he actually has to be in the presence of the the people he slags off.

He's the classic school yard bully.

All hat.

No cattle.

You have to pretend you are Chinese and think !!!
Taiwan is 100% Chinese, actually they are more Chinese than China.
They keep all a lot of Historical cultural records while China destroyed itself during the Cultural revolution.

I guess we'll see how well Trump performs once he's in office.

There's sour grapes, and then there's sanity. Something lacking among Trump's supporters.

And I am sure if Hillary was the President-elect and took a call from Taiwan's President, she would be lauded by the Media for her efforts of outreach and "taking a tough stand with China." And of course, we would see this same thread, but praising Hillary Clinton. And that is the truth.

Sour grapes and predictable.

No.

You are projecting.

And as we all know.

Hillary wouldn't have made this type of juvenile mistake.

Because she actually had a fucking clue about how it works.

What a disaster! This could wipe out years of kissing China's ass, losing all of those brownie points would be terrible.
What if China makes us take all of our jobs back? What then?

No.

You are projecting.

Hillary wouldn't have made this type of juvenile mistake.

So we should be more concerned with what China thinks and allow them to continue to devalue their currency and be the recipient of lucrative trade deals from the U.S., and the U.S. should continue to be f*cked in the ass by China and they should continue to walk over the United States. Got it.

And I am absolutely on target in that if Hillary was in the position, she would have been cheered on the media and you would have demonstrated blind obedience in supporting Hillary because she is your Queen Bee.

So we will remember that we need to bow down to China at all costs, according to Hillary supporters. Okay.

China says he is meddling with her sovereign affairs. It is likely some sort of reprisal will happen, as recognising Taiwan in this way is giving legitimacy to it for it's claim to independence from China, which is anathema to mainland leaders. If you haven't noticed already, Shi Jinping has been consolidating his grip on the mainland, and stoking patriotic fervour. As long as everyone toes the party line, or rather his dictats, then all is seemingly well, but this... Trump has not only endangered the folks on Taiwan, he risks armed conflict which may drag the US into another foreign quagmire. Despite your naval superiority, the staking out of the South China seas by the chinese military is not by accident.

China should either let Taiwan go or be booted from the U.N. Their position on Taiwan is a direct violation of the Charter.

Screw China and their sensitivities.
Taiwan is a modern democracy. Trump's gaff has kicked the sand in the face of Beijing's thought police. They're no less idiotic than him in that respect.

Yes. China's "sensitivity" boils down to the attitude that they should rule the world. Remember that they still regard themselves as "the Middle Kingdom", which means the realm at the center of the world around which everything else must revolve.

Until they stop being an empire, they should be given no respect.
