They keep all a lot of Historical cultural records while China destroyed itself during the Cultural revolution.

Yes and no. Sure, they're ethnically Han Chinese, but just as with the Palestinians, who were just the same as the inhabitants of the area around them and not a distinct people, the Taiwanese have become a distinct people due to their opposition to being ruled by China.

It's what we should have done ages ago: best to have jobs in the U.S., good to have them in one of our neighbors, acceptable to have them in the Americas, tolerable to have them overseas in NATO countries. We'd be far better off as a country to have helped stimulate the economies of our neighbors.
