NPR did a phone interview with the Chairman of the Native tribe that used to live there, and she basically said that if the "militia" guys really wanted that land to go back to it's original owners, they be happy to take it back. Otherwise they were just hypocrites.

Surprisingly, the new recruits were rejected by the Bundys and left the area a few hours later.

The Bundys say they were "concerned about the perception the armed visitors conveyed." An armed militia which says its members will fight to their deaths is concerned about the perception conveyed by an armed militia?

Wow -- someone the Bundys rejected? Not something I would have imagined.

Now if the unarmed peaceful types would just come up with a way to eject the Bundys.....

They also covered the national refuge sign with a new sign saying: "Harney County Resource Center" in white block letters over a blue background.

The ones who did that have opened themselves to quite a pile of charges.

The natives -- the Paiute -- owned the land until the government took it by force. They have a decent case for ownership; the Bundys have . . . nothing.

BTW, one of the news programs here noted an item that is a legitimate issue to people out here: more than half the state is owned by the federal government, a situation of which a LOT of us don't approve.

It has been reported that a news crew got on film the Bundy people going through government computers getting SS numbers and other things as well.

I have heard zero about PPN since I posted that. Everyone is ignoring them. I am guessing they really did leave.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty funny, too.

I gather that there was a power struggle between Ammon Bundy and Brandon Curtiss, leader of the PPN.

Also funny was Curtiss' claim that the PPN were there to "de-escalate" the situation (which has been mostly peaceful), by adding a lot more guns to the mix, and threatening to block access to the site by law enforcement. Fortunately for everyone, there is NO law enforcement around to block.

Harney County sheriff Dave Ward says unknown people are trying to harass the police. They're following cops home, sitting in cars outside the homes of police officers, and initiating discussions with them about their employment.

"Many of these confrontations are taking place as their employees are grocery shopping, running errands with their families and trying to lead their day-to day lives," Ward said.

"While not direct physical threats, these activities are clearly designed to try to intimidate."

The crazies seem dissatisfied that authorities are ignoring them, and may be trying to provoke a confrontation.
