In fact, I'm sure many of the individuals who say that they "don't make race a preference" or that they're "open to all race" also have this suble psychology in them. The difference between the people from these two groups is that the "non-preference" people either try to deny it to others (and to themselves), or they recognize the bigotry within them and make sincere effort to alter it by constantly telling themselves that race doesn't matter.

Baseless psychobabble. Many of us "non-preference" people have discussed at length, in these threads, our own biases. We're not hiding anything. We're human works in progress. I, for one, have never said "race doesn't matter." But I have said that it's not a deciding factor, or a litmus test.

I think that San Francisco and LA (and New York City) may be more exceptional than typical of most American cities. I get around the states quite a bit and the gay couplings you've described are not all that evident outside of la-la land, and even then...

It seems to me you are accusing those of us opposed to sexual racism of hyprocisy because, as you say, we have our own biases.

My response is that we have not denied having biases, we just prefer to examine and deal with our prejudices, no guaranteed outcome, rather than simply excuse it as "personal preference."

But I would agree that many who say "race plays absolutely no role" in their slection are, perhaps, being polite.

The first time I ever slept with a white man, chile, it was weird as hell. And when I say slept with him, I mean just that. There was no sex, we just slept together. There were some cultural barriers to overcome. His idea of sex and sensuality, was not my idea of "sensual seduction." But, eventually, we became better informed individuals, though we never did revisit the sex part.

I can understand where you're coming from. Hastiness to respond, however, get you nowhere (I'm constantly telling my dad the same thing). It's a good idea to verify the facts first and perhaps ask more questions before making an official confrontation.

In our specific situation, when I say that there's a "root in the person's psychology that would cause him or her [sic] to choose based on race," there's a possibility that I was implying that it's not the person's fault; afterall, a root in someone's psychology is out of the conscious person's reach. In truth, that was indeed what I was implying. That said, where's the accusation of hypocrisy?

I have a question: is culture different from race?

I'm not a big fan of what some people call "urban culture." For instance, http://www.50cent.com/ He's good looking, I've heard him in an interview and he sounds like he has a brain. I just don't get his whole aesthetic.

On the other hand, http://www.williameddins.com/ conducts the symphony in my town, and he's good looking, also smart, but I would definitely be up for a night on the town with Mr. Eddins before I'd even look at Mr. Cent.

To me the answer is yes, culture is different from race, and that makes a difference in my level of interest. Others may feel that they are statistically tied together or something.
