Retaining The Ashes 2006/7

Australia 9/602 dec

great work by the boys now its time to knock the poms out :D ..|

ENG 3/53 (17.0 overs)
thats 3 down and 7 to go till the poms bat again:D

Good start but remember the last series began with an easy win. Personally, I have a feeling this match will end in a draw as England will try and bat, and bat, and bat some more and hope for some storms.

McGrath was on a hat trick!

Where are the whingeing Poms when you need them? The Barmy Army was too embarrassed to show their faces today so locked themselves up in their hotel to watch on TV. No doubt preferred listening to the dulcet tones of Benaud, The Opener (Lawry) and even the Sorth Orfrican (Greig) than listen to their out of tune singing!

So Poms all out by Lunch on Saturday, invited to follow on and test all over by Satuday night? Hate to be a banana bender with tickets to the Gabba on Sunday or Monday!!

But, getting back to the Test Match, England are in real trouble. They have to bat thru' the 3 sessions tomorrow if they hope to get a draw out of this game. As so often in Test Matches, Saturday is the crucial day.

It looks like 1-0 to Australia. But...

Looks as tho' the whinging poms were not allowed to trumpet their support in the Gabba:

Brisbane is obviously not a horny place[-X .

Shame - that actually rather surprises me. It will probably turn out to be the overzealous action of some junior PCs.

I hope it is sorted - that really would be rather out of character and I doubt that Aussie sports fans would have seen it as an issue.

Aussies 1/177 2nd innings, as I type this .... lead is 622 .... and it's only the second day!!!

Almost embarrassing, really. :gogirl: :gogirl: :gogirl: :gogirl:

Third day ozguy. More to the point, why did Ponting not enforce the follow-on? The Aussies had a lead of 445. As it stands, Ponting has given England a chance - ok, a very slim chance - of saving the match.

Perhaps Ricky also thought it was "only the second day";)

Or the ABC commentators playing devils advocate sugesting that since the players now get a slice of CA's revenue that another day of 40,000 at the Gabba was in their wallets best interests.

My thoughts too. And if England get a draw from this game, Ricky is gonna be on a very sticky wicket. Especially if it rains for the next 2 days in Brisbane. Or if England manage to bat thru'out the remaining sessions.

rain in australia you've got to be kidding:D
i really dont see england batting thru 2 days but hey anythings possible

Ricky Ponting must be regretting his decision not to enforce the follow-on.

He's allowed England back into a game Australia should have won yesterday. He's allowed England to re-group and restore some self-belief and pride.:=D:

If England do bat out for a draw tomorrow - unlikely of course, but possible - Ponting's decision will go down in Test history as one of the worst decisions ever made by a Test match captain. And even if Australia win, it is still a decision that defies belief.(!)

the Aussies have been reluctant to enforce the follow on since that test in india where the did and got beaten.

it would have been worse if england got in front and we had to get say 100 or so iam always nervous about the small chases as we seem to lose a few

its over now
Australia wins by 277 runs:=D: :=D: (!) (!)

england did well to show they are not batting that badly and may challenge us
but their bowling was horrendous and if it dosent improve they can't win

Well we won !!!And covincing as well.
I agree with Ponting not enforcing the follow on.He wouldn't of wanted to bat last on that pitch. He wanted to make sure he never gave them a chance. We totally outplayed them. The total of both English Innings did not equal Australia's first Innings score.!The pressure is now on England to win.Bring on Adelaide.!

Well, as it has turned out, there was not much wrong with Ponting's decision not to enforce the follow on. In a test match in India a few years ago, Australia was in a similar situation after the first innings, enforced the follow on, and got beaten batting last on an awful last day Indian wicket. Since then, Ponting has been very careful in deciding whether to enforce follow ons or bat again.

Congrates to the Aussies:=D: No doubt: they deserved to win the opening Test
match.

Now to this beautiful city and it's twink-like cricket ground:

England are hopeful of getting a result here, but if they are to achieve anything, their bowling has got to improve.

They need a good Friday, a body-lining Saturday, and a miraculous Sunday to resurrect their chances of retaining the Ashes.

They could, of course, pray for rain.;)

oh i love the Adelaide Oval it my favorite ground in Australia :D
high scoring and very little rain and hot weather and just a beautiful ground
