It really is quite simple Lawstuk. If i went to another country, i would be expected to adapt and integrate with the society into which i had moved. If that meant not drinking, not smoking, not being openly gay etc, that is what i would have to do.
So why, when people come to this country, are we forced to adapt to them?
We shouldnt. They came here, they should adapt to us, cos they certainly wouldnt alter their way of life in their countries to accommodate us.
England, and the UK as a whole, can not be seen as a soft spot any more. It is not racist or wrong to stand up for ones countries values and look out for its best interests.. it is in fact more morally loyal and honourable to do what is right and in the best interests of ones nation, than to pander to the PC brigade.
If you want to watch this country flaunder.. then feel free - but do not complain when your taxes shoot up 50% to pay for the NHS which is being abused by immigrants who arent paying a penny back into it!
Joe - it's obvious that your understanding of economics and politics is so oversimplied that it is risable.
To answer your original question, my vote is for Rule Brittannia.
To carry on with the hijack of this thread, I learned in skule that the public sector is considered a non-productive segment of the economy. They do not produce widgets and therefore bypass the spin-off effect. They are only a drain on the economy.
Here in Canada it appears a majority of government jobs are held by immigrants. They choose to do this as the pay by our gov't surpasses the private sector, the benefits are incredible and the job security is beyond belief.
The end result: reaching a person on the other end of the phone with limited knowledge of the english language, or accents so thick as to be difficult to understand.
And no, I am not a bigot.
