So, what do you guys think about the possible mosque by ground zero

The funniest part is, the plans for the Cordoba House include a 9-11 memorial.

I'd say the really funniest part is that the same people who put out lies saying gays are shit-eating child molesters who want to destroy civilization put out the lies saying this is a mosque art ground zero, and even gays (who should know better) end up believing them.

However, I will admit that I was not aware that the proposed site of the mosque is to be 2 blocks away from the bombing site, which changes my argument entirely (I truly believed that the mosque was to be built on the exact spot of the old twin towers), so I shall shamefully duck out of this argument with my tail between my legs.

As well you should. I hope you learn something from this. Don't jump to conclusions until you have researched the subject beyond a 30 second sound byte, or a FOX Fraud newscast. ](*,) ](*,)

For the record this is the mapped location of the former WTC to the new community center:

And no doubt this is the ONLY place I'll hear or see this news story.

The U. S. media wants us to believe that 100% of all Muslims, no less than that, would build the mosque not two blocks away, but right atop the "hallowed ground" if they could.

MERCURY JONES quote:
In the interest of full information: It's also not a mosque. It's a community center that includes gym and recreation areas. It includes a prayer area too, which is itself not a mosque.

Our media tries so hard to feed us lies and innuendo about this plan. Take a poll of Fox News watchers, betcha at least half think that it's a mosque, being built directly upon Ground Zero, by Jihadists.

The tension that the idea of a mosque has precipitated is unbelievable. There is great discordance between the rights that some Americans have and the rights that the great, wealthy, Christian and predominantly white Americans have, I think - much like in Australia. I do wonder if the angry Christians have the same amount of concern and understanding for those parts of the world that don't want Christians to visit or build, after witnessing the extreme violence, illnesses and disharmony and destruction brought by Christians?

But surely even on purely cynical political grounds, building a mosque is a good thing for that part of Manhatten and the USA in general? It screams social integration, inclusion, involvement, and makes it harder for extremists to argue that America is only filled with anti-Muslim filth. It makes it harder to convince psychos to bomb again in the belief that there is no way for the word of Islam to be heard in the West. It means that there is an opportunity for people to experience the commonalities that they share and to enjoy those experiences together. Harmony is always healthier and more fun than anger and fear.

Obama is right that there should be no reason to want to prevent law-abiding people from worshipping on their own private property in the USA - so long as the people who were all created equal all still adhere to the constitution that guarantees freedom of religion to its people... Of course, Orwell was right - some people are more equal than others.

Also, since the building already exists and is being used for the purposes of religious observances of Islam, what's so difficult? Even a mayor with a Jewish name gets this.

The problem is, most Americans don't CARE what other countries think. Because, you know, we've got the bomb.

Also keep in mind that a lot of our European allies (France and Germany in particular) also have out-of-control Islamophobia at all levels of society.

"Even" a mayor with a Jewish name? I daresay that being a Jew (and he is) he understands the cost and value of religious freedom!

Bloomberg isn't the greatest guy in the world, but he left the Republican Party after it went nuts. He has a basic sense of what America is about, which is more than I can say for the anti-Muslim nutbars protesting the Cordoba Center.

Sorry, I was thinking of the 911 Zone, not their property.

Ah. Completely different thing, of course. But that property is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and leased to a developer who's already building on it.

You damn right it's about opposition to Islam!

I see Islam as a particularly dark, particularly insidious cancer, metastasizing on the face of the planet. Brutally repressive, aggressively intolerant, stuck in the Middle Ages, a direct antithesis to human progress...and to the advancement of the acceptance of gays, too.

Well I don't like Islam either (or any religion) on a personal level, but that is irrelevant. According to the US Constitution everyone is free to practice whatever religion they wish in this country.

You cannot make it more difficult for just Muslims to practice theirs without violating that.

Homosexuality is punishable by death according to Islam, and you jokers are defending it.
You're confused. We are not defending the theological tenets of Islam. We are defending the personal freedoms of people who wish to practice it. If you seek to revoke them, then those same freedoms could conceivably also be taken away from individuals wishing to practice Christianity, or from individuals wishing to practice no religion.

I say put a mosque on the roof of every new building being built on or near ground zero.

I can't remember where, so don't quote me or take my word for it, but I heard that if they do succeed in building their mosque at that site, they'd consider it a victory with 9/11.

I honestly don't understand how anyone could stand behind a god and a religion that has so much blood on its hands and has caused so much heartache and war.

Now try and guess which religion I'm talking about.

Hmmm? First one(s) that came to mind were the one(s) the promoted the Crusades, orchestrated the Inquisition, sponsored the genocides of the Mayans, Incas and many other indigenous people world wide and kept the Troubles in Northern Ireland going for most of the 20th century. Am I close?

As for a 9/11 victory, imo if the Cultural Center doesn't get built 2 blocks from where the WWC once stood, it will be a victory for the terrorist because they will have succeeded in having the USA surrender one of its fundamental principles when faced with fear and ignorance.

But not anti-Christian bigotry, apparently.

I see it every day here on JUB.

You're confusing answers to different questions.

Does Islam suck? Yes.

Does Christianity suck? Yes.

Should either be free to build a community center on property they own? Yes.

Or have you forgotten that?

Nope. But neither have I forgotten that in the US we are guaranteed freedom of religion. Even dumb religions - which are all of them.

Homosexuality is punishable by death according to Islam, and you jokers are defending it.

Judaism too. Christianity too.

But I'm unaware of any such deaths from Muslims associated with this building.
