Soccer World Cup 2010

Re: Franky Handsome and Pretty Boy Yoann...

´

More french spectacle - rumours about a little fight between Ribery and Gourcuff:

http://hubpages.com/hub/World-Cup-brawl-between-Ribery-and-Gourcuff

Well... something like this happens - if so many contrasts collide:

Gutter against nobility, third school and high school, monster-face versus model-looks...
´
hmmmm...

The internal conflicts of the team are probably leading to the poor performance which leads to more internal conflicts.

And the spiral goes round and round.

In French Newspapers you can find some stories about long time
antipathies between 'working class kids' like Ribery & Co. and
well educated and cultivated guys like Yoann Gourcuff.

Ribery made this a personal fight and also questioned Gourcuff's
straight sexual orientation in front of the team.

From L'Equipe:

>> The problems and friction in the French team are down to a split over one man: Yoann Gourcuff.

Gourcuff comes from a privileged family. He is smart and he is respectful - but he is also still a shy little boy. In his spare time he listens to music, watches films and plays his video game systems. He is, in his own words, a little nerdy.

In a French squad that places more value on how much money you have in your bank account, and what girl is on your arm, Gourcuff doesn't fit.

One incident occurred shortly before the World Cup. Franck Ribery and Sidney Govou had organised a night out at well known gentleman's club in Paris. Several players, including Gourcuff decided to stay home. When Ribery heard about this he immediately confronted Gourcuff and asked "does your mother not allow you to go, you homosexual slut" ?

This is one of many incidents.

Ribery is the main instigator in the bullying, however he is far from alone. On the pitch, Gourcuff plays within himself. Scared because he fears the verbal retribution he will receive after the match from his tormentors.

In the squad, Gourcuff can count on only 4 real allies. His best friend Hugo Lloris, his teammate Jeremy Toulalan, elder statesmen Thierry Henry and captain and the glue that holds the team very loosely together, Patrice Evra.

When Raymond Domonech bowed to player pressure and dropped Gourcuff for France's second group match, that was the catalyst for the situation in which we now find ourselves. <<

I think Christian Ronaldo has the best and most beautiful legs
of all players: just perfect - long and very well defined.

Judging by the face I prefer Marcel Jansen.

Maybe today the 'German Joker' gets his first gig against Ghana.

Don't miss the show....

I have never understood the French way of thinking, logic or point of view. It almost always makes me shake my head in bewilderment.

Why in the world would Domenech keep the bully Ribery on the team when it seems to be clear that he is poison? Was Domenech being bullied by Ribery also?

Martin Rogers says in his Yahoo! Sports column says:

« [ ... ]

Domenech had no support from his players even before the event, and it was no surprise. With the federation installing former captain Laurent Blanc as coach – and his contract to start after the World Cup – Domenech was already a dead man walking.

[ ... ]

But there is only one person who might have a chance of sorting out this mess, and he is not a politician.

That person is Laurent Blanc.

For a proud soccer nation like France to be dumped out in such fashion from one of the tournament’s easiest groups is an unspeakable humiliation. The first thing Blanc must do is strip the team of its aging troublemakers who formed a clique that was hugely destructive.

Anelka should have played his last game for his country. The same goes for defenders William Gallas and Patrice Evra, who is believed to be at the center of the team’s mutinous thoughts.

[ ... ]»

So this is what baffles me about the French team. Why were the trouble-makers even considered for the National Team? Why were they allowed to continue causing problems?

Is it because, to the French, it's more important to be a star than it is to win a match? If you can't win a match, how can you be a star???

All in all, it doesn't really matter to me. It was a fitting end to France's participation. They cheated their way into the World Cup, so it's only fitting they should leave in shame.

I'm surprised Domenech lasted as long as he did.

I thought he'd have been booted after Euro 2008, or even going into Euro 2008, for lackluster performances, and the team have never seemed to fire under him nor really support him.

Oh the French, they're making this tournament more interesting for the media...

If the article about Ribery the bully is right (which sounds very credible), then I'm nothing but happy that France is out of this world cup. Well, I didn't want them to get throught in the first place because of the way they qualified, but now after all this Herny's hand seems so inocent and naive. He doesn't seem to be a bad guy after all.

I'm sorry for Gourcuff, he's so cute. I wouldn't mind him being gay at all

Nice job USA..

Poor lame lil frrench team. SHAME SHAME

Dunno what it is about him, but I do think that he may very well be gay after all.

Ekim, I'm sorry for the French supporters. :( (*8*)

The French players were not really a "team". They were a collection of big-headed, super-egos who seemed to think that all they had to do was show up and then collect the trophy.

It's a sad day for fans of France. :(

omg, just 2 minutes from being eliminated, Landon Donovan scores for USA and saves the day. (!)

USA goes through. :=D:

good game ghana! no really. you almost had us a few times. very exciting game 'til the end!

sadly i have only seen a recapitulation of the AUS vs Serbia game, but it looks like it was a good one as well!

Corny, thanks for reminding me... congratulations to Germany, England and to the Socceroos on their wins also! :=D:

I've recorded the USA vs Algeria match and will watch it now. Then I will have to record the repeat broadcasts of Ghana vs Germany, Slovenia vs England and Australia vs Serbia.

hmmmm... That's 6 hours of football... plus 1 hour for lunch. Maybe I should call the boss and tell her I can't come to work tomorrow... too busy watching football on TV... don't have enough time left for work.

I hate these head to head game-days, because you have to change channel every two minutes to see what's going on (no picture-in-picture for me :() and you lose the thread of both games and invariably miss goals.

It doesn't help that I switched to the wrong channel halfway through and ended up watching Mahut v Isner at Wimbledon - anyone catch that? 2 sets each and it was 50 games to 49 in the final set when I got hooked there too. Finally stopped at 59 all with bad light.

So I spent the second half watching snippets of 2 very good football games and spellbinding tennis, but really didn't get a good feel for any of it with all the channel-surfing.

As for earlier - great performance from the Americans. Apparently this was the first time they've won the 3rd group game since the 1950 World Cup - lost that fixture every time since then up till yesterday.

Oh, and England still look shit.

^I'm sure Ghana would rather play the US than England. I have a nasty feeling England just might figure it out and suddenly start playing well.

If they get their midfield working (ie only Gerrard plays, or only Lampard plays, with the other on the bench and another decent holding midfielder connecting front and back), I think they can take anyone on quite easily. Surprisingly, Capello doesn't seem to know this.
