"eli's latest invention" .. how many did he have lately ..?

actually one surprise .. the suites didn't malfunction as it was to be expected, but he fell into an ice canyon .. wohoo!
 
Yes Eli and his inventions. I choose to ignore that he was recruit because of some computer game bullshit.
 
So, maybe they talked about this in the episode that I missed (the third hour) or I've just missed it, but it occurs to me that "Destiny" is doing some sort of recurring tour. That is, every time they drop out of FTL -- the ship drops out of ftl -- it's near enough to a place where a working stargate exists that they can go there. So Destiny isn't going anywhere "new" (to it), but is on some sort of pre-programmed route to places it's been before. Why? How long before they "come back around"?

Or am I missing something?

No. It drops out of FTL at planets which can solve an immediate problem at hand (water, fuel, CO2 scrubbers). Then it becomes a 'scavenger hunt' of sorts since the crew has to search for the solution which isn't always immediately apparent.

It doesn't just stop willy-nilly whenever it passes a stargate, which is why someone must learn how to control the ship.
 
the last episode was a bit of a let down grrrrrrrr
the series had better not become a weekly scavenger hunt for whatever they
are running out of THIS time. I understand this is still early days and there is a lot of character building in the works but yeah . . . .

So, the ship is actively helping the human visitors? That's kind.
 
the ship is a system trying to keep itself and it's crew alive. no matter if humans or not .. the atlantians (or ancients) respect life very much.

I thought they kind of seemed snooty and self-important when they actually showed up in Atlantis (only to be quickly dispatched by their replicator progeny).

(One thing I was missing was that this ship got sent out "ahead," but behind other ships that planted the stargates.)
 
they are .. arrogant a bit .. at least. you need to watch the last seasons of sg-1 for more background info on this :)
they just try not to get involved.
 
It seems to me that it is quickly becoming the SGU Space Opera. All these relationships and love affairs (both on Destiny and with the exchanges back on Earth) are getting very tiresome very fast.

If they keep this up, I won't be watching much longer.

Anybody else agree?

I'm with ya. Too much friggin drama. Especially after yestersay's consciousness-switch-in-the-middle-of-fucking scene (which was VERY disturbing) and the revelation that Young had an affair with someone under his command (big NO-NO!!). All we need now is for a threesome and we'll be done!

Unfortunately, once I start watching something, I rarely quit. Which is why I am STILL watching Defying Gravity... sigh.
 
I liked Friday night's episode a lot. At this point I'll keep watching.
 
I enjoyed the episode tonight. I enjoyed learning more about Eli's life and Rush's possible motive for being on Destiny. However, I do agree that this show is becoming fairly soap opera-ish.
 
Although I did like Eli's moments in the latest, I think we get too much Eli. He really didnt give anything new. He even repeated all his Star Wars crap. We've been nailed over and over with his mom being sick and him being this fish out of water. It's kinda becoming an old hat.

I did like that we learned a little about TJ.

Chloe and Scott are just annoying. They barely spoke to each other for the first few episode and then all of a sudden theyre in this deep love affair and she's his reason for living.

Plus Scott is a douche. What about the soldier girl he was fucking in the broom closet? They made all the effort of having this graphic sex scene btwn them and now he pretty much ignores her and he doesnt give two shits about her dying. I still think she's gonna end up pregnant but it's still shitty how Scott is treating her.

I thought it was still kind of ambiguous that they would get out of it. I thought the ending with "well they've got enough knowledge now to get out of this" without actually showing them doing it was pretty brave.

I liked it a lot. I am enjoying the character development. I know we just find out the "same stuff" about Eli, but the way in which it was revealed, and the circumstances, were different, and to me that it made it interesting in a little different way.
 
"Time" was boring? I think we watched different episodes, then. It had an incredible amount of character growth and was the most gritty and heavy sci-fi episode of anything I've seen before.
 
It's becoming far-too-much of a soap opera to me, and they're losing me as a fan with all this 'let's zap back to Earth' nonsense. I mean, how many people know about the Stargate now? Did the government release a statement to the public or something?

It's like the writers can't think of a story that has enough stuff to fill an entire episode aboard ship, so they create 3 more stories back on Earth to fill the void as they did in the latest episode ('Life').

Oh, and a bit off-topic, but as I was watching it last night (the show repeats on Saturday night on Space), there were at least 3 programmes promoting next-weeks episodes (including SGU, which is only halfway through the season) as a 'Fall Finale'.

What's up with that? Are they going to stop broadcasting the rest of the season until next Spring or something? I'm not sure I like that idea.
 
They're guaranteeing me as a fan. They've written drama I can empathize with for once. I felt myself tearing up. I think the going back to Earth and the difficulties it creates for the characters' personal lives only enhances the drama which is just getting so very intense.

They're doing a mid-season hiatus. A lot of shows do this around November and then they pick up again in January. Especially this year because of the Winter Olympics.
