Thad's Hockey Corner

And, oh, I have credit for the tickets I bought in March. I hope I can use it for something when gatherings are again safe.

These strange bubble playoffs are quite entertaining. I watched the Tampa Bay win earlier and am watching the Flyers-Islanders game now.

I haven't posted much lately, but I have been watching the games on TV. I'm quite happy with the finalists, the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa Bay won game 3 tonight, 5-2. They're hard to stop, with a defense that doesn't give up much.

I like the goaltending in this series as well. Vasilevski and Khudobin have been outstanding.

The next games are Friday and Saturday.

I hope the NHL doesn't rush into next season. I'd be fine with a later shorter season if fans can return.:-({|=

I miss hockey. Especially the kind with fans in the arena.

The season is still so iffy. COVID makes a comeback and everything's off.

The new NHL season starts January 13. The AHL plans to start February 5. Some ECHL teams are already playing!

I hope fans can return soon.

This coming season will be different, with new divisions and no inter-division play. And the NBC schedule has been announced. Apparently I won't get to see the Calgary Flames or Winnipeg Jets at all this season.

Some hockey beats no hockey. I'll be by the TV for the triple-header Wednesday, January 13.

It's on!

I saw the season opener on TV. Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh, 6-3. And I'm watching the second game...Tampa Bay leads Chicago.

Three teams plan to have fans in the arena to start the season. I got an email from the Arizona Coyotes offering tickets for January games! As big a fan as I am, I'm not flying to Phoenix yet. And Dallas has postponed games due to COVID, yet they plan to have fans. It's not a good look.

I'm watching the game from Tampa and missing the outdoor beer garden at Amalie Arena. It is actually nice in winter.

Too bad that you're missing it in person, but I am glad that the season has started for your enjoyment.

Yep. I'm watching the Minnesota vs. Anaheim game on TV now.

COVID is causing havoc, of course. Games have been postponed. The Washington Capitals were fined for violating protocols. It's not normal yet.

This condensed season is flying by! I'm watching on TV.

There are some NHL surprises this season. Toronto is flying high. The Florida Panthers are better than expected. Nashville is spiralling downward.

Miss Covid is messing with the NHL. Yet teams are reopening arenas to fans. I thought social distancing was important, but every team I've checked is only selling tickets in multiples. Huh?

I am enjoying televised hockey but am not likely to see any games in person this season.

Nashville escaped their slump. Hooray! Their season may be saved.

I watched college hockey's Frozen Four final on TV tonight. UMass is the new national champion, beating St. Cloud State 5-0.

I don't watch college hockey often, either on TV or in person, but I do like it. There are no NCAA Division I teams within 30 miles of me, but the ECAC had held its tournament in Atlantic City in the past.

Thanks to the networks of NBC. I've enjoyed the hockey riches they've offered.

Apparently NHL games will return to ESPN next season after many years. I hope it's just a few, not most, games. Barry Melrose, ESPN commentator, is great, but since NBC dropped Mike Milbury I am so fond of the current NBC hockey sportscasters.

I'm loving the Central Division, where three of my favorite teams are fighting for first place.

Playoff time! I've already arranged not to work nights.

My favorite teams are in the Central Division this year, and are playing each other.

My TV is busy.

I was disappointed that the Islanders lost their playoff game tonight. But Montreal beat Toronto in overtime, and I do like a good underdog.

Tonight I plan to go to a neighborhood sports bar and watch the Lightning-Islanders game. Since I'm in Pacific time, it starts at 5 pm.

I'm wearing my Lightning Pride t-shirt and full-out rooting for them. I bet I'm the only person in Spokane who cares. Or maybe not.. the Spokane Chiefs major junior hockey team has been a fixture here for years.

Well...I did watch game 1 of the Finals at the North End, Chicago's gay sports bar. And I wore my Lightning Pride t-shirt. But the three other hockey fans there were rooting for Montreal. I was the only happy one.

Tampa Bay is showing what to do. Their offense is so balanced and the defense and goaltending is superb.

I saw game 3 at home. I'm not sure where I'll watch game 4 Monday night, but I think I want company.

Another Stanley Cup for the Tampa Bay Lightning! My favorite player, Braden Point, wasn't much of a factor in the Finals. The Lightning had depth enough - and great goaltending by Andrei Vasilevskiy. That was quite enough to beat Montreal.

So I didn't go to any NHL games last season. I'm already planning to see one in Las Vegas this fall...when the schedule is released. And the Seattle Kraken begin play this fall, too. There's an expansion draft this summer.
