Thad's Hockey Corner

I am so excited for next season!

I've already bought tickets for 8 NHL games in 5 different cities. It's soooo far in the future, but I'm going to Pride Night at the Nashville Predators on April 6, 2024.

My season starts October 13, with the Arizona Coyotes at the New Jersey Devils. Four weeks away!

Agreed! Can’t wait for the season to start too!

Did you take the photo or are you the guy fiddling with his phone on the right bottom corner of the photo? 🙂

My photo. The guy fiddling with his phone is still fiddling with his phone.

1st intermission. Sean Couturier of the Flyers was awarded a penalty shot...and SCORED! 2-0 Flyers, ready to start period 2

The game ended 2-0, but not for lack of shots. In the 2nd period, the Flyers outshot the Canucks 23-2. Thatcher Demko, Canucks goalie, stopped 40 shots.

I'm going back for more Thursday. The Flyers play Edmonton. I'm wearing my vintage Oilers jersey (from the bad years in the late 90's) and I'll probably still root for the Flyers.

The game Thursday was 4-1 Flyers. It was OK with me. Cam Atkinson of the Flyers scored twice, and I'm so glad he's back after missing last season.

I'm now watching the Flyers-Stars game on TV. It's tied 4-4 with 5 minutes left in regulation. The shocker is 3 of the Flyers' goals were shorthanded! The other curiosity is that both teams are playing with their backup goalies. Both teams have A-list goalies who are getting a rest tonight.

The Stars won in overtime. The old guy scored. (Joe Pavelski, who's having a good season and does not look that old.)

Oh, my. Disappointment for the Islanders. After a scoreless first period, they got a 2-0 lead, gave up 3 goals, got one to tie, went to overtime, and lost.

Goaltending was good. Ilya Sorokin of the Islanders and Ville Husso of the Red Wings are two of the best.

I do like the current Red Wings squad. I think their long rebuild is finally over. They have a strong young team who will keep improving.

I'm not so sure about the Islanders.

I went Monday. My next game is November 14. The Florida Panthers visit the San Jose Sharks.

The Sharks are off to a dreadful start this season. Fine with me.

Hey Thad, I see that you enjoyed the hockey game out in San Jose. The Panthers are my home team, their arena is 35 south of me, though I'm really a lightning fan. I got introduced to hockey when I lived in Tampa, as I had some friends over there that were really into it. Though I did attend a couple of Panther Pride Nights before Covid hit. I went with a group from the local Old Farts (older gay men) Club, and we got a couple of group pics taken on the ice. You should have seen the waiver the Panther club made us sign. It said that we acknowledge that being on the ice could cause serious injury or death. But when we went out to get our picture taken, they had placed this large carpet or whatever, so we never directly walked on the ice.
