The expanding Israel-Hamas war

My guess is Harris has to say as little as possible now, but will be forced by her party to take a harder line against Israel. There is just no way we are putting troops there. Arms will slow from us.

Harris isn't going to be "forced" by the Dems to do anything until after November, and if she wins, she'll be the one doing the pushing.

I’ll agree with you that no American troops will ever be involved in this fight but since Israel is doing just fine on its own it’s not much of an issue. I doubt arms will be slowed however, it’s a curious thing that the further away you get from the Middle East the more concerned people become with the deaths of innocents.

With the possible death of Nasrallah I read again that this time Iran will have to respond but how? Can’t use the Hezbollah missiles because their purpose is to protect Iran not Lebanon. If Iran had a nuclear weapon that would hardly help them because Israel has more of them so that won’t help. The Iranian army isn’t going to invade Israel and the Irgc isn’t really a fighting force so the only thing left is missiles which they have but so does Israel and Iran will get the worst of that exchange.

The phrase paper tiger comes to mind.

Based upon Netayahu's latest gambit, the situation may come to a head before a Harris Administration may start in January. Iran is getting very close to being nuclear weapon enabled and they seem to be sitting on the sidelines and waiting for something.

Getting a weapon ready, most likely a bargaining chip considering the certain loss of support from any sane member of the nuclear club (except Pakistan), then it doesn't logically follow that Iran would trigger her own invasion or decimation as her first gambit.

She is radical. It's not the same thing as stupid.

It doesn't matter what Bibi does, the Dems are simply not going to "force" Harris into any corners before the election. (which is a month away) What they say after will either be moot if she loses or moot if she wins and has the luxury of doing the pushing.

She's not going to make any last stands, principled or otherwise before the election either.

Nor should she. We only have one President at a time, in spite of the delusions down in Mar-A-Lago.

I think it would be nice to know how she plans to deal with the Middle East if she does become president.
It would be nice to know how trump plans to deal with the Middle East if he becomes president.

And health care( nothing under his administration), and the border(which he really did nothing about under his administration), and the economy (which crashed under his administration), and the budget (which skyrocketed under his administration), and job creation ( do I really need to do this again?)

We get concepts of plans from him. Nothing more.

^ This.

The right wingers demand nothing of their candidate. He provides zero policy information, except for Project 2025 and his reflexive situational lies about issues like IVF. When pressed to expand on details about how he would end the War of Aggression against Ukraine by rrrXXZia, he said "I'm not telling you".

But somehow, Harris is required to submit her plan on how to deal with Israel...which I would point out, is also largely dictated by Congress.

I suspect that her policy on Israel will be largely influenced by what the House and Senate look like after November elections.

Let's be frank: both Biden and a future Harris administration aren't going to have the leverage that American governments once had. A lot the countries in the middle east are like teenagers sent away to college with their parents' credit card. They want to live like independent adults but they still want Mommy and Daddy to finance it.

Candidates can say what they need to say but neither candidate is going to have much pull in the situation.

Israel keeps escalating and drawing in more countries to their war of retribution. And the American President, American military and American State Department are left to say, "No, Israel didn't tell us that they were going to do this beforehand."

And really, it isn’t just a United States issue. It’s a World issue. In the future the US can’t be the police of the world. We all know the rules of the United Nations make it a complete joke, but it really is something that should be handled through the UN

It's time to stop providing aid and military support to Israel. Harris isn't in control of any of the support we give Netanyahu.

Israel has an incredibly strong lobby in congress and the arms industry has been more than happy to supply the weapons.

Unfortunately....this round has pretty much made a mockery of 'never again'.

The United Nations isn't even a joke any more. It borders on an obscene gesture toward world diplomacy and morality.

It was terrible from the beginning during the cold war and the proxy wars between the superpowers, but now...I have no idea why this Kabuki theatre still exists.

Hezbollah has just confirmed the death of Ali Karaki - the commander of the group's southern front.

The IDF had indicated yesterday that he was kiiled in the same strike that killed Nasrallah.

This will seriously diminish the ability of Hezbollah to orchestrate a strong response, although the nihilists may just decide to scorch the earth.

Meanwhile, the hapless and ineffective PM of Lebanon Najib Mikati says he "welcomes" a ceasefire, but that it must apply to both Gaza and Lebanon.

He concedes there is "no option but the diplomatic option" to end the cross-border conflict with Israel.

He added that a ceasefire could mean the United Nations Security resolution 1701 - adopted to end the last Israel-Lebanon war of 2006, but never properly implemented - could be applied.

Jewish-American PACs like "United Democracy Project" donated millions to target Democrats in the House who spoke out against Israel.

This included $8.5 million to target Cori Bush (D-MO) and $15 million against Jamaal Bowman (D-NY). Both incumbents lost their primaries.

It is in need of reform. The problem is that one American party wants to withdraw from the UN and the other party doesn't have the balls to push for the needed reforms. At this point, the UN looks more like a big convention- with lots of lobbyists and rentboys/callgirls in town to peddle their wares to the attendees.

As long as the US, Russia and China have the power to veto anything in front of the UN Security Council, the UN will remain a feckless organization unable to respond to any crisis unless it involves the flow of oil or an embarrassing number of corpses (excluding Palestinian and Ukrainian corpses, that is).

Now that the Iranians have responded to Israeli attacks I’m sure Israel will respond but I hope not in kind. Having humiliated the Iranian government now they should aim to scare the hell out of the Iranian leadership and missiles killing innocent civilians won’t accomplish that task instead go after their oil exports and attempt to dry up their financial contributions to their various proxies and even starve the government of money which in that economy might spell the end of the religious reign.

I don’t know the how of it if it’s pipelines or cargo ships but iran and it’s buddies need money to make the train go so deprive them of that and I believe you’ll get better results than another missile attack.

Once this is finally over the Israeli religious parties will push for the Palestinians to leave both Gaza and the West Bank even though they have no place to go but that won’t bother most Jews as in the past they were often told to pack up and leave even though they had no place to go.

I feel there is a slight undercurrent in Israeli behavior avenging past horrors done to the Jews by others. They have twisted the Golden Rule from do unto others as you would have them do unto you to do unto others as they have done unto you.
