Whitney Houston and SUSAN BOYLE? That's like hiring Fred Astaire and strapping a tractor to his back.

Re: American Music Awards - November 22nd, on ABC!

They just announced that the AMAs will open up with 8 minutes of Janet!!!

And where did you hear that?

Also, does anyone else find it a bit odd that Beyonce has received that award? I was reading all those great ICONS who received it and then i got to Beyonces name and was like what the heck...lol! just seems out of place......shes not on any of those peoples level....

Re: American Music Award Nominations:(Gaga in & Whitney out)

How can Taylor Swift be nominated in the Pop and Country category and THEN be nominated for Country Artist of the year?

Thank God Carrie Underwood has a new album just released so that she can tear that untalented useless wimp to shreds!

Ms. Houston has been quoted as being static over the honor of performing with Ms. Boyle.

Re: American Music Award Nominations:(Gaga in & Whitney out)

I'm now really excited for the AMAs now that Whitney is performing (with Susan Boyle, for real?), Lady GaGa and Janet is opening the show performing a medley of her hits.

Static? As in not moving? Probably just as well.

Whitney Houston to Take the Stage at the AMAs

November 11th, 2009 2:26 pm / Author: Brittany Talarico

Whitney Houston will make her return debut to the American Music Awardimage stage on Nov. 22, Dick Clark productions announced today. The diva will perform her latest hit "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," and will also be the recipient of the AMA International Artist Award, an honor presented only to those artists who have reached acclaimed fame around the world.

The award is so unique that it has only been presented seven times in the 36-year history of the American Music Awardsimage. Whitney will be the eighth artist to receive the honor, after Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, the Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyonce.

"We're honored to have Whitney Houston back on the AMA stage after ten years," said American Music Awards producer Larry Klein. "She has won the most AMA's of any female artist in history and is without a doubt an international superstar so it's only fitting we honor her with the International Artist Award this year at such an important time in her career."

Whitney has been nominated 37 times and won 21 AMAs in her career, more than any other female solo artist. She also holds a record with the King of Popimage himself for the most AMAs won in a single year for 1992's The Bodyguard Soundtrack. Michael Jackson's record from 1983 was for his breakthrough album Thriller.

Whitney has been making many public performances since her come-back premiere on the Oprah Show, where she talked candidly about her days of drug abuse. Last month she went on Simon Cowell's X-Factor, the British equivalent of American Idol, where she experienced a wardrobe malfunction.

Despite the slip, Whitney held her head high and remains in a positive place in her life.

Other performances this year include Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Adam Lambert.

The 37th Annual AMAs airs Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Whitney Houston: Returning to the American Music Awards in a Big Way

Posted by Bridget Bland on Nov 11th 2009 4:44PM

Whitney Houston is ready to show just how strong she is on primetime television.

On Nov. 22, the 46 year-old entertainer will sing her Diane Warren-penned ballad 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength' on the '37th Annual American Music Awards' telecast. The song is a featured single from her seventh studio album 'I Look To You,' which debuted atop the charts and remains marked the biggest first week sales of her career.

The 'I Will Always Love You' singer's AMA performance will be her first time on the show in a decade. She previously performed 'Until You Come Back' and 'My Love Is Your Love' with Babyface and Wyclef Jean on the 1999 telecast. It will also mark her first primetime U.S. network performance in five years since appearing on the 'World Music Awards' in 2004.

According to a rep for Dick Clark Productions, Houston will also be presented with the American Music Awards International Artist Award, in recognition of "special artists who have gone beyond the borders of their own country to be acknowledged for their superstar status around the globe." She becomes the eighth honoree to join a elite group of award-winning recipients, including Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, the Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyoncé.

Previously announced American Music Award acts include Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Adam Lambert. The American Music Awards will broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Nov. 22 at 8 PM EST on ABC.

She looks drunk in that photo, just saying.

Re: American Music Awards - November 22nd, on ABC!

lol @ Taurean -- I found it funny too. That Bey is in that group of icons and legends. VERY out of place. Hell, even Mariah Carey deserves that award before the likes of Bey...and Mariah doesn't even have it yet. Ludicrous!

Re: American Music Award Nominations:(Gaga in & Whitney out)

Ohh honey, and drunk never looked so good. :D

Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston will make triumphant returns to the American Music Award stage later this month!

The duo was announced as the latest round of performers to be added to the 37th Annual show late Wednesday.

Jackson, fresh off an ABC feature with Robin Roberts (preview) and a Number Ones disc, will open the show with what is being billed as a "special opening performance".

While not much else has been revealed about the special performance, it is believed that Jackson will perform some form of tribute to late brother and entertainer, Michael Jackson. However, with a "Number Ones" package out and the song "Make Me" growing on fans, Jackson might just surprise fans and viewers with something fresh.

Joining Jackson, Whitney Houston has signed on to perform the inspiring song "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" during the show.

Taken from Houston's successful comeback bid "I Look To You," "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" follows early fall singles "Million Dollar Bill" and "I Look To You".

Celebrating Houston's career and achievements worldwide, the American Music Awards will also honor the diva with its AMA International Artist Award.

The 37th Annual American Music Awards air November 22 on ABC.

Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, the Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry and Adam Lambert are also due to perform.
