Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

"Glitter" wasn't THAT bad. In fact, I consider "Lead the way" to be one of her best tracks ever.

My pick for worst album goes to "Charmbracelet". Mariah was completely lost when she recorded that album and that disorientation is very clear in the song choices she made. All of them are so easy to forget.

Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

interesting all the votes and comments about charmbracelet.

when it was first released I liked most of the songs and considered it one of her bests.

I love "Through The Rain", "Boy", "The One", "Yours", "Clown" (the song allegedly written about that CLOWN Eminem), "Lullaby", the AWESOME "Subtle Invitation" and even "Irresistable" was good.

"I Only Wanted", "My Saving Grace" were bad. "Bringin on the Heartache" i didn't like the original and of course this one was awful. "Sunflowers for Alfred Roy" was personal to Mariah but imo --- wasn't a good song.

thats my thought about charmbracelet.

Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

I honestly have not heard ever Mariah Carey album, but I will say that I was not too fond of Rainbow. There were only a few tracks that I liked on the whole album; she could keep the rest to herself.

Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

"Rainbow" wasn't a solid album indeed but the few good tracks that are there make the album an OK one for me. "Petals", "Crybaby", "Did I Do That" and the interludes are gems, IMO.

Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

In 'Charmbracelet,' she was incoherent. The songs were ok, but you couldn't understand anything for the most part. Inaudible whispers, is what it boils down to. The only good thing to come from that album were 'Through The Rain' and the bonus tracks.

Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

^^You must not pay attention to lyrics. The lyrics alone made those the best tracks from that album by far.

I will agree that she started to get more and more airy during this period. This "airiness" continued on Emancipation.

However, I have to disagree with you that Emancipation was one of the worst from Mariah.

I actually think Emancipation is better than Music Box --- Music Box which IMO is filled with honestly some dumb music: "Now That I Know", "Without You" (cover), "Just To Hold You Once Again" and "All I Ever Wanted."

Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

"Crybaby" and "Did I Do That"? Seriously?? And you didn't like the "Emancipation of Mimi" compared to those, ahem, "gems"? I'll only agree with you about the interludes here, haha. I'm really surprised you like "Did I Do That" which is probably one of the cheesiest, most blandly produced Mariah tracks I've ever heard. It really does represent everything I've read that you hated about Mariah's last few releases.

I disagree. "Did I Do That" has a very unusual and "weird" sound...quite different from what Mariah usually does. It also stands out precisely 'cause it's not overproduced as 85/90% of all of her material. PLUS it's always nice to see Mariah's bitchier side, show some attitude.

And "Crybaby"...it's not an easy song to sing, at all...not because of the vocal range but more because of melody and the song's structure. It's a tough song. And Mariah's interpretation in this song is GOLD! I'll take this vocal display over the shouty studio-tampered vocal mess that was TEOM.

Music Box would be as terrible as TEOM if it wasn't for the far superior vocals. In terms of artistry, TEOM is slightly superior, however, the vocals...ugh!

Music Box certainly had a better vocal performance by our gal. However, the substance is light in comparison to what we find in TEOM.

On Music Box we find only truly good "substance" (lyrics, etc.) in "You've Got a Friend".....and......uh....."you've got a friend" ...and uh.....LOL! Okay, there's hero....but that's it!

in TEOM damn man! there's so much "substance" that although vocally it might not compare, musically, production, lyrics.....is ten times of Music Box which makes up for her vocals.

There's the awesome "We Belong Together", the BRILLIANT "Mine Again" (a soulful 70's song with EXCELLENT vocal performance), the 'sassy' "Say Somethin", the very nice "Shake It Off", "One and Only" is awesome, "Your Girl" sounds like a classic Jackson 5 song, then of course is perhaps the best song on Mimi - "Joy Ride".

There's no comparison...in my opinion.

Not at all. I wasn't attacking you either. I, many times, say things with a pinch of salt so...just get used to it, don't get the wrong idea. ;)
It's cool if we disagree.

Re: The worst Mariah Carey album?

I didn't think "Did I Do That" had all that weird of a sound. It actually sounded like a lot of other crap out at the time. You could virtually hear the producers tweaking around with an already established sound to make it sound slightly different. It was definitely wise for them not to release it as a single.

I actually thought it was Mariah's version of the whole Destiny's Child sound.

"Crybaby" was nothing special in the vocals department. I could imagine Rihanna singing it, honestly. I've heard Mariah sing songs with more impressive structure than that without having to go into high pitch mode at all. "Crybaby" will definitely be a forgotten single in her discography. Well, it already is...
I really had no idea that it was even ever a single.

Actually, at the end about 4:40 in the song, where Mariah wales ---- I've gotsta disagree wit you there. It's awesome.

I do agree it will not be a memorable single.
