  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Topics you dont want to see in 2012

Annnnd speaking of parody threads and gross content, illgetbi is now going on my Ignore list.

Yeah, you're going to have to just suck that up. I wish it could be confined to CE&P, but unfortunately that's not the policy here. I don't usually come to JUB to discuss politics, but every so often I get caught up in one of those discussions...and I'm appalled by the stupidity on display (like "since the one guy isn't quite good enough, send him a message by voting for someone you KNOW is WORSE").

That said, however, American politics affects the entire world. Personally I think the rest of the world should have some say in it for that reason. But if you looked at some of the current Republican slate and read up on them, you'd be terrified. From "conquer and enslave all those furriners" to "let's just send drones to assassinate any foreign leader we don't care for" (and no, of COURSE they don't put it that way) there are some really terrifying possibilities there.

And you can't do anything about it...except by conversing with people who can vote in US elections.

Please note: I'm not talking about how things OUGHT to be. I'm talking about the reality you can expect in 2012. The Americans here are going to get quite heated, and it really matters who wins that election, just as US deregulation of the banks ultimately brought down the world financial system.

Unfortunately I don't think you'll see any LESS of those topics in 2012.

Thank you.

I was (keyword: was) extremely proud when Obama became president. I was at JUB with Stacy posting away and reading the updates. The inevitable, overcoverage of election day by HT was unavoidable and enjoyable. But I remember the threads months before the election itself and those threads were just stupid and venomous.

By theory, you go to CE&P to call Michele Bachmann an "unsuitable politician" but you come to HT to call Michele Bachmann a cunt. And that's how it should be. But instead the "politics", the particularly nasty CE&P-kind, exploded here, we all had to endure it.

Like I say, these topics are something I don't wish to see. But apparently some JUBbers here compliment me by thinking my words carry weight and that I can change things. That political shitstorm is going to hit HT hard but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Absolutely. I agree 100%. And you can have an influence. The international perspective is valuable, since the nature of the American media (almost entirely run by huge corporations) keeps us pretty insulated from any offshore perspective.

I had no illusions that my Ignore would in any way punish you, illgetbi. Just protecting myself from seeing festering human flesh again. It's really a pity, actually, since I've found you quite witty (and friendly!) in the past.

BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH *snort*

I'm sorry Criostoir but the some American posters at JUB are the very walking definition of "America, FUck YEAH@@@!!"

Like they give a shit what we think. But I will most certainly try to let them know my opinions. ;)

Well, THOSE posters are a lost cause. I don't have any more ability to influence them than you do.

It's triage. You don't have to say anything to BBC-listening, foreign-blog-reading me; waste of your time, because I already have that perspective (though I'm always interested in more). Don't spend any time talking to the hardcore America First! types (who are really Huh? Is There Anything Outside America? types), because that's also a complete waste.

But there are people here who honestly have no idea what people outside the US think of the US, or have incorrect ideas ("they look up to us as leaders of the Free World!!!") - but would be interested to hear about it, and might change their opinions on some things if they did. It's work, and it involves responding to some truly stupid things not with "That's truly stupid" but "actually, I think that's not quite the case" - because otherwise they stop listening.

Pain in the ass, actually. I'm not saying you SHOULD do this. I'm just saying you COULD.

This thread went quick.

Not really.

Everything isn't always going to be rainbows. :) You know this.

There's always room for conflict and misunderstanding.

For example, I read tombastep as saying "wow, that's a lot of posts to this thread in the short time since it opened." ONE of us misread his intent!

Now that you point it out, I can see the interpretation of "this thread went downhill quick," but it honestly never occurred to me on first reading.

Such is communication. And the lack thereof.

Topics I don't want to see in 2012:

"I'm going to commit suicide" threads

oh, and threads that go off topic and turn into bitch fests. Like this one.

I love how 'passionate' you are about this.

Of course I am. Despite JUB's many, many, many flaws, it's my second gay home and there are many people whom I call friends. I don't want to see this place turn into something that is foreign and unwelcoming.

The international community here is a minority and most American JUBbers are very inclusive because of the standard set by the previous owner. I get very sensitive (and paranoid) when people think that this is an American site/forum because that would mean that we are not welcomed here, and I might have to leave JUB and live a normal life after that.

But whatever.

****

Perhaps maybe it's a good time to comment on the people who are here going and implying "omg it's a bitch fest, I'm soooo above this, this thread went quick". I like how people just forget the many other bitch fests they have participated in other threads. It's a rather odd disease, this amnesia that they get suffer from the moment they read drama that they are not involved in.

I'm not winning any friends in this thread. It's a great way to start the year.

oops, I'm all eyerolls today.

I would hate to see some of you guys in the real world, if every time someone has something that resembles negative-type conversations with one another it qualifies as 'bitch fests', 'arguing', etc.

Please.

there will always be threads that go off topic (some further than others) and turn into 'bitch fests' (this isn't really even one of them) LOL.

If you're waiting for the day it doesn't...you'll be waiting a long time.

I'm literally slow-clapping to this post. Thank you, Huntneo.

"How do I clean my ass before sex" thread is another one I hope not to see again.

Lol... butt Sixthson how are we supposed to learn how to clean our dirty dirty arses?

I think ebby body needa learn how to not click on a thread if dey dont like it or if the title isnt clear then hit the back button people.

I mean is anybody REALLY subjected to anything around here?

Grow up and use some choice.

No gay teen suicides. It be nice for once for none of us to report such a tragedy. Also no more "I think so and so is gay". Unless the person in question announces it themselves or caught having sex with another man, SHUT UP! Beyond that, their will always be stupid topics like mine for instance. If you don't like it, ignore it.

No more cut vs. uncut threads. Enough already!

Oh and no more "in love with my straight best friend"

I get confused when JUBbers use too much sarcasm.

I'm from Australia and speak the English language but sometimes I don't know what some JUBbers are saying.
