Torchwood

I'm only going to watch the American version if Russell T. Davies is NOT involved.

I hate his cavalier attitude towards the viewers and his own characters. It's not just because he killed Ianto.

He's done the same thing other shows. In the UK version of Queer as Folk he introduces a character and kills him from a drug overdose 3 or 4 scenes later.

Bob and Rose is just annoying. It feels like he wrote the ending first then wrote a series to lead up to the ending.

I will never again watch anything with name on it.

I've been delaying Children of Earth so the wait until the next season isn't so long, but I couldn't resist starting and just finished Day 2.

Wow! It's like a global "24" on steroids! It's almost a different show. I absolutely love it.

Anyway, I just noticed there are a lot of Torchwood books, perhaps just ebooks, I'm not sure.

If anyone here has read any of them, a few questions... Are they considered canon? I've tried to figure if there is an order to them, is there? Finally, are there any that deal with Jack and Ianto's relationship?

Just wait until you get to the last two episodes of "Children of Earth"!!

Would love to know what you think when you're done.

I hope the joint venture US/UK production won't mess up the magic of Torchwood.

Can't wait to see John Barrowman on screen again!! Time for you to return to Earth, Captain.

The last day was probably the most stressful and best pieces of fiction I have ever watched. What happens with the kids, it's very intense, painful and moving. I can't think of anything to compare it to.

The other thing I loved was how well developed the characters were. The Prime Minister was such a loathsome person that you want to see him really get it in the end. I hope that actor got some sort of award for that role.

Andy taking off his uniform to fight the military was one of the many YEAH moments. Jack's decision near the end was one of the many unbelievable...

I hate what happened to Ianto, but it's part of what made the series so moving. Dr. Rupesh, they could've kept him on a little longer, he was adorable.

I could go on and on...

The best part is I get to see Gareth David-Lloyd and Kai Owen at a convention in a few months and will have them sign my season 3 DVD as soon as I can find one!

Now the question is should I go back and watch Dr. Who? Was never a fan of that... watched a few minutes of the first episode and wasn't too excited... the zombie mannequins really freaked me out too.

^^Until the reboot several years ago, all I knew about Dr. Who was gleaned from seeing a few episodes of the sillier and cheaply produced version from the 60s which were aired on PBS. I didn't have high hopes for the new version.

But from the first episode of the first series, I was hooked. Not every episode deserves an "A", but the series as a whole certainly does. Each of the three Doctors and all of the companions have been terrific.

I did prefer David Tenant of the three Doctors so far, and it's taken a while for Matt Smith to grow on me, but the shows are generally very well written and produced. The best episode of all for me was the weeping angels in Tenant's first series. I was scared shitless.

I loved Billie Piper as the first companion and literally cried during her last (or so we thought) scene, but Catherine Tate was also fabulous. She took no guff from the Doctor, and I was also very sad at the end of her last episode. She is really a gifted comic actor.

I would give Doctor Who another shot. I actually started with Matt Smith, then worked my back to Eccleston and then Tennant. I really love the series, and all the companions. The episodes are quite hit and miss, but there are some truly great episodes - one of my favourites is "Blink", "Turn Left", "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End". Brilliant, brilliant episodes.

My local PBS station aired old Dr. Who's when I was a kid late at night. I never could get past the crazy Dr. that looked just like the guy down my street who had arguments with himself and often slept on other people's porches. I thought the music was creepy and the robot, well that made no sense to me at all.

I was shocked years later when I found out there were people who practically devoted their lives to the show.

It pretty much ruined me of any British TV until Red Dwarf came along. :)

Okay, you twisted my arm... :) I'm going to give it another shot. I'm just going to pretend that mannequin episode never happened and hope I never wake up screaming because of it.

Right now those names you mentioned mean nothing to me. :D I don't even know who the Dr. was in the episode I partially watched! Honestly, I've never quite understood why so many actors have played the role, it seems like they never last long.

:hurray: Feeling more optimistic today about the new Torchwood.

John Barrowman had this to say in a recent interview:

"I knew they would be true to the show and not change drastically. If it was watered down, I wouldn't have done it. For those people who are our staunch fans, it's going to have the heart and soul of Torchwood which we've always had, plus the energy and excitement of a show that is bigger and better."

Capt. Jack "gets to have full-on boy-sex a couple of times. On those days going to work I'd wake up and Scott my partner would say, 'What are you filming today?' And I'd say, 'Oh, it's going to be a tough day. I get to have sex with a 24-year-old.'"

:hurray: The summer looks good. Can't wait!

OMG! Excitement, much?!

Thanks for the trailer, braex. This is my must-see show of the summer.

I can't wait for the season premiere(!)

I was pissed off that they killed Ianto and left us the blob known as Gwen but I will give it a chance ;)

In an interview about the new series, Barrowman mentions that his character has another gay relationship with another character, and he also mentioned "sex with a 24 year old man".

It would appear that Dillon Casey will play Brad, (one of) Barrowman's love interest:

I've seen the first two episodes. I liked both of them, they were good.

But, although it's good it's not really Torchwood.

With the Hub gone it can never be Torchwood. It's like blowing up The Enterprise, killing most of the cast and still claiming it's Star Trek.

But, I'm enjoying it. It has an interesting story line.

I don't see how Anybody likes Torchwood. I watched episode 1 a couple of weeks ago and the episode was soooo FLAT. 90% of the Cast is a COMPLETE bunch of "throw-aways"...

I FORCED myself to watch episode 2 and it was BORING...

Last night I took the show off my DVR-Pre-record line-up...Even the Talented & Sexy-Leading Actor Mekhi Phifer isnt enough to keep me tuned in...

STARZ Bombed with Torchwood and I predict it will not return for a 2nd season. I'll happily wait for "Spartacus" to return in 2012...

I don't know much about the show however I do love this scene

Well just saw the second episode and well it was a bit slow but still very good, can now see that the whole 10 episodes might be on the same story not sure if i'm too keen on that, but i'm sticking with it.

Come on and be HONEST...That show is a "Snooze-fest"..When I watched episode 2 I was WAITING and PLEADING for it to end.....I thought NBC's canceled Drama "The Event" had a terrible start but Torchwood got it beat Big-Time......

For some reason Network Drama-Creators/Producers/Writers are having a hard time telling stories of Unexplained Phenomena....It's as if "The X Files" was the Final swan song to the Genre...
