Triple G Appreciation thread

(*8*) Hi, John.

The heat has settled in at about 103 to110. Not that bad as long as the A/C keeps working.

Unfortunately, we do not have Dunkin' or Chrisp Cream here. :( I didn't try Starkes Family Donuts, they are local and very good bakery.

Good Tuesday morning, Gary! (*8*)

I'm sorry you're having your dizzy spells and that pain and discomfort in your arm. Hope your doctor can do something for you. And having to go without power in the desert with 105+ degree heat is more than an inconvenience. I'm glad you were able to keep cool with showers and dry ice and such, until the power came back on.

Good Tuesday morning, Gary! (*8*)

I hope you're doing OK, health wise, and that you're keeping cool in the heat, and you've had no sabotaging of your electricity.

Hey and hope you're feeling better, Gary! (*8*)

Good Sunday afternoon, Gary! (*8*)

I hope you had a good pew duty day, that you're feeling well, and you've been able to avoid the desert heat.

Hi, Gary. (*8*) I hope you are doing well, and had a great weekend.

I’m okay, and enjoying some cooler weather this week.

steam locomotive built more than 100 years ago has returned to the Kent & East Sussex Railway after it was bought by a volunteer.

The Peckett & Sons 0-4-0T engine, named Marcia, was donated to the Kent & East Sussex Railway (K&ESR) in 1962, where it stayed after being bought in 1965 by K&ESR member Richard Beckett, who died last year.

Mr Beckett’s family arranged for Marcia to be sold, so the locomotive was taken to Exminster, near Exeter. It was bought in June by K&ESR volunteer Andy Hardy, from Maidstone, and the company he works for, Rapido Trains UK.

“It’s been a lifelong ambition to be a driver,” said Mr Hardy, who has now welcomed Marcia back to K&ESR.

Marcia weighs 12 tons and was built in Bristol in 1923.

The locomotive’s working career included stints at the West of Scotland Shipbreaking Co and the Manchester Oxide Company, where it was given the name Marcia after Marcia Clayton, who was the wife of the company's managing director.

Marcia was in regular use at steam events during the 1970s and 80s, and was a roving ambassador for the K&ESR at county shows and other events.

The engine was withdrawn from service in 1982 for restoration, which was completed in 2011.

“We are delighted to have Marcia back because she is the heart and soul, the passion, the emotion of this railway,” said Dr Robin Coombes, general manager at K&ESR.

“We were almost on the point of losing her but thanks to Andy she has been brought back.”

Happy Independence Day, Gary! (*8*)

I hope you're at home enjoying your AC and keeping cool, and that everything is going well for you, health wise.

(*8*) That is a nice treat for the 4th, RM. And that dude is dressed for my place which hit 125F today.

Hi, Dan

Hi, Gary. (*8*) 125F? I hope your A/C is in full working order. I’m wishing you a lovely weekend.

I’m okay, and thank you for the train photo’. It is most interesting. Now here’s a photo’ of the preserved class J72, Joem, at Layerthorpe, York, Derwent Valley Rly., in August, 1979.

Good Tuesday morning, Gary! (*8*)

I hope you're doing OK, staying out of that extreme heat, and relaxing in your air conditioned house. That's about all you can do right now, I suppose.

(*8*) (*8*) Good afternoon, John, RM, Rob, Dan

Good Monday morning, Gary! (*8*)

Wow, you're still dealing with that extreme desert heat? Just stay inside and keep your AC working, and take it easy.

(*8*) Good morning, RM, John

Sorry I haven't been around much. It has gotten so I just want to sleep. Thank you for keeping me in mind.

The heat continues unabated and is 96F at 7am. I got up at 6 this morning to shower. Even then the cold water is hotter than the hot and barely tolerable. There is no relief from the heat in the foreseeable future with highs around 115 to 120+. Wish I could get a long shower at a comfortable temperature.

I did buy a new set of speakers for the main right and left speakers in my home theater setup which greatly improved the sound. The system is 5.4.1. Video is close to reference quality and better in the theaters. Spending most of my waking hours watching TV. No need to go out to the theater as it is almost as good in my livingroom and I have a difficult time getting around.

Will be going too pew duty in two and a half hours. Maybe take a nap before.

Hope all is well with you.

Good Wednesday morning, Gary! (*8*)

It sounds like you've got yourself all set up with your theater system, so you can keep yourself entertained at home. I hope you're dealing with your desert heat OK. It sucks when even your cold water is hot, so you can't cool down in the shower.

(*8*) Good morning, John

I got up at 5:30AM for a shower. The cold water was HOT, but survived and even shampooed the hair. At 6:30 we are at 96. Yesterday we hit 122. By the way, yesterday was the hottest in day worldwide in recorded history. How is the heat in Florida? No need to ask about humidity.

Looks like this will be a good day as I feel really good this morning for a change. :wheee:Got folder duty this morning.
