Uefa Euro 2008

[ ... ]

What a great game by Russia today... and Holland... what happened? That's not the same team we watched in the first 3 games...

Congratulations to Russia, well deserved win today. Holland just didn't play well.
Congratulations to Russia! :=D:

They played an excellent match. I'm very impressed.

And it not the same Russia I watched lose 4 - 1 to Spain.

Holland were played off the park. Russia should have won this game long before extra time.

Indeed, it was one of the most one-sided games in EURO 2008 so far.

Russia to win EURO 2008? Might be worth a little bet.

Tho' greaves still has his money on Spain.

really good game from the russians. it has been a long time since they have come this far. this could get interesting :)

And so to the big game everyone in Europe will be watching tonite:

Italy v Spain.

greaves tipped Spain to win EURO 2008 from the beginning, but this is Spain's biggest test.

Italian Serie A club football, after all the scandals, is way behind the English Premiership, Spain's La Liga and the German Bundesliga in terms of money, television coverage and credibility.

BUT...Italy, like Germany, have the habit of winning big games.

So greaves going to put a slight twist on his population/television audience calculator. ( Italy's population is circa 58 million; Spain's population is circa 45 million.)

UEFA know that if Spain win tonite, a huge Spanish speaking TV audience - in North, Central and South America - will stay tuned to EURO 2008 for the semi-final stage.

So Spain to win.

Half time

The ESPN commentators have remarked on the lack of penalties against Italy.

"The referee is not having his best night.

"The referee has been quite generous towards Italy, especially Ambrosini and Grosso."

"How could he not see that? How could he not see it? That's thee times now. It's ridiculous... ridiculous."

David Villa tugs a shirt in midfield and it's a foul... David Silva gets clipped in the box and it's not a foul.

Spain will again meet Russia in the 1/2 finals.

Perfect Iker Casillas today!

Spain are thru' :=D::=D::=D:

A victory for the beautiful game.

Italy insulted a world-wide audience again by their totally negative, cheating, cynical play.

But tonight - unlike 2 years ago when cheated their way to winning the World Cup - they limped off the field liked the total losers they are.

Let's face it. Do you know of any world class player who wants to play in Italy?

Vamos Espana!

Poor my Azzuri. Spain had more luck and they won. That's true.
It's nonsense to declare that Casilas better than Buffon. Neither when compare Spain and Italy.

Ah, yes Mirror. Spain had a little luck this time...finally!

Buffon is an excellent goalkeeper, and so is Casillas.

I don't like to see a match decided by penalty kicks. But I know that matches like this one have to be decided somehow.

Well tomorrow should be an easy win for Germany. With 9 players from Turkey's side either suspended or injured and possibly their 3rd string goalie playing striker tomorrow, it's going to take a miracle for Turkey to win. The Spain vs. Russia game is going to be really good. I have a feeling Russia may win but I think Spain will go back to the attacking style that got them here (as opposed to the cautious team who almost lost to Italy).

Should be interesting for the final matchup on Sunday...

Germany v Turkey tonite.

Everyone expects Germany to win comfortably.

Some facts about Turks and Germany:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turks_in_Germany

EURO 2012 will be staged in Poland and the Ukraine, both countries over-run in World War 2 by Nazi Germany.

And after WW2 both countries were under Russian communist control for decades.
Poland and Ukraine hate both Germany and Russia

Turkey does not come into this historical debate.

greaves hopes Turkey win tonite. But UEFA will welcome a German win.

Relunctantly, greaves has to say a German win.

Spain vs Russia today.

In the balance...

Goalkeepers: Spain has a huge advantage with Saint Iker. Akinfeev is very good, acrobatic, but Casillas is much better. Big advantage to Spain.

Defenders: Russia has an excellent defense, and so does Spain, though Puyol can be a "bala perdida" (loose cannon) at times. Slight advantage to Spain.

Midfield: Spain's midfield seems to lack the "killer instinct". Slight advantage to Russia.

Forwards: Pavlyuchenko and Saenko vs Torres and Villa. The Russians are very good up front, but it's hard to match Fernando Torres and David Mara-Villa. Advantage to Spain.

Bench: Spain's bench is slightly deeper, espcially with Fàbregas coming along nicely. Slight advantage to Spain.

Team conditioning: Spain looked tired after 90 minutes with Italy, Russia looked fresh after 120 vs Holland. If this goes to extra time... Big advantage to Russia.

Coaches: They are both top-notch. No advantage.

National Anthems: Russia's anthem far out-matches Spain's stirring but wordless (lolololololo) anthem. Big advantage Russia.

Verdict: Advantage to the Furia Roja.

Like it ^ :=D::=D::=D:

Wonderful game last night. Wrong result.

Tonite: Russia v Spain.

As you know, if you have following this thread, greaves had a few Euros on Spain to win EURO 2008.

Every greaves' prediction on this thread so far has been correct.

No need to change a winning formula:

Spain to win.
