/\ Of course, 'baggage rack' is just a polite name for an adult diaper.

Grading the final essays for my summer class. One down, three to go. (Yes, it was an extremely small group.)
It would sound more impressively grueling if you had stated it like this: "I have one quarter of the essays done, and three quarters to go!"

I have hit the wall today.

All my good intentions of clearing up a raft of work items disappeared when I woke up with a headache and then relaized I just don't fucking care.

Just finished reading an old Perry Mason book. As expected, the client was not guilty of the murder. Now I'm pondering watching the TV show adaptation of this book to see how similar it is.

Had a 3.0 earthquake in Hasbrouck Heights NJ at 10:19pm) Only a few towns over from me.

Considered minor but it sounded like a car hit my house. I had fallen asleep in the recliner and it scared the hell out of me.

:therethere: Earthquakes are terrifying. I know how you feel. I remember one sometime late 1970s. That's exactly what I thought, a car hit the building. I was naked in the shower too when it happened.

Reading some messages from old friends. Went ahead and re-activated Facebook after absenting myself for over a decade. Totally worth it to connect with them. May not stay, but I'm approaching the age I may not have another chance if I don't do it now.

And getting up to make a couple of cracker pies.

If it's Thanos, tell him Trump is in DC now, so aim better.

Thank you. We had a 4.8 quake in April of 2024 that shook the house.

This one no shaking. I could have sworn a car hit the house and I thought I heard debris falling.

Cant find any damage though. Strange things.

Im not used to these things in NJ :)

The impact of the wave moving through the ground could have made the boom as it hit your foundation/piers.

If you live in a wood frame house, likely no damage to worry about. If you live in brick, then the crack should show if it split a wall anywhere.

Wood frame. Checked all over everything. Nothing I can find. Neighbors have similar story.

We've experienced a few here.

One morning I could feel the swell and then listened as the wood framing complained a bit, but it is a rambling house with enough shear walls to take it. Maybe there were a few more plaster cracks, but it would be impossible to tell...they appear all the time as the house keeps settling.

The other time about a decade ago, we were in the office and that is the only time I could feel the upward and downward movement which can be the most destructive. Again, an old, old building that had the structure to move with the forces.

The massive one I remember was when I was studying in Rome and out getting a gelatto one evening when suddenly all the car alarms went off and people were running out into the streets because of the shaking...the very next day, tons of scaffolding started going up around many of the monuments so that they could be assessed and reinforced.

But being outside and walking, no of us really felt the waves that sent dises flying, chandeliers swaying or resulted in sounds of cracking stucco.
