What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

via NCLR - the national sponsor of Latta v. Otter

has just announced on Twitter that the 9th Circuit has ordered that couples will be able to marry Wednesday morning at 9 am MT.

Well, Florida is finally joining the real world.

Bondi: Let Florida Supreme Court decide same-sex marriage now

In a startling move Monday night, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said she wants the Florida Supreme Court to decide once-and-for-all whether same-sex couples can marry in the Sunshine State.

“That is unquestionably an important issue, and the Plaintiffs, the State, and all citizens deserve a definitive answer,” Bondi’s office wrote in a 6 p.m. filing to the state’s Third District Court of Appeal. “Until recently, the issue was squarely before the United States Supreme Court, and it appeared that a definitive answer was coming. ... Unfortunately, the United States Supreme Court decided not to answer the question.”

This is an attempt to run around the 11th circuit and nothing more.

I've seen that cited as one of the major difficulties is just finding plaintiffs willing to splash their private lives all over the media, as well as the time and the energy to go through litigation, which can take years. On that note, it should be easier now that there is little need for court dates in these states, national organizations are picking up the tab, and the process is weeks instead of years.

It will in some states but the factors I mentioned highlight the next stage of our fight.
We will have marriage equality but not employment, housing protections etc.

If the 11th Circuit says yes, then the FL Supreme court cannot restrict the law. It can only be less restrictive, i.e. if the 11th said no but FL Sup. Ct. said yes, but the Supremes would always get the last say on both.

Equality Case Files tweets that the District Judge in North Carolina has entered an order and judgment enjoining enforcement of North Carolina's marriage ban.

Why Gay Marriage Opponents Keep Belly-Flopping in Court

The problem there is that Yahweh v. Sodom is not binding legal precedent. It’s a conundrum for gay marriage opponents: The primary motivation driving many of them can’t be raised in court. Neither can the second most important: personal distaste for homosexuality. That leaves them scrambling for justifications, with the result that each rationale is sillier than the last.
