What to do with illegal immigrant criminals in the U.S.?

… for illegal immigrants who become felons, put them to work -- specifically, [details to be determined]

So you are proposing a special penalty for convicted-felon inmates who also happen to lack proper citizenship documentation?

No, that is not adequate. Entering the country without permission is a crime punishable by jail time and a fine. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1325

Enforcing the law with jail time would go a long way to slowing the traffic and preventing the other crimes by illegals. But, hey, maybe they will vote--no need for an ID.

The USA already has the highest proportion of prison inmates per capita in the developed world.
And Ben wants more in them.

Do you think 'low taxes, small government' Ben realises those jails and prisons are costing US taxpayers around $74 billion per year?

That's around $740 per taxpayer

He's not even concerned about the crimes they commit. He's more concerned with the fact that they vote Democrat. (They don't need ID, dontcha know.)

The cost is why I'm amazed Ben hasn't pounced on the idea of putting them to work building Trump's wall -- putting them in prison is like welfare, isn't it? They get free housing and food, in better condition than many of them had in Mexico!

Nope if they've been convicted of a felony, and not for two years after release, and then they have to register.

Well, that would kill two birds with one stone: get them off the streets and out of the voting booths.

There IS method to the madness.

The US Government has a Constitutional duty to protect the states from invasion. Art IV sec 4. If we have to lock them up for awhile to stop the invasion, it is worth what it costs.

To lock people up while not controlling the border is futile and only feeds the prison industry.
If, the big word, "If" we don't want people just meandering on into our nation then we should find a way to stop it from happening on such a large scale.
Mind you, if one wants to sneak in he will find a way. But we could at least slow it down.
To detain people while having miles of open borders only feeds the fat cats that own the prisons.

Illegal immigrant criminals should recieve enhanced sentences as for a hate crime, and the death penalty for murders and rapists. All illegal entry should be a felony with no chance for voting rights.

Heil to you!

I absolutely agree with you. No one has been more vocal here about closing the border than I. But jailing the offenders and closing the border are consistent, not alternatives.

So much for small government then.
I guess in Ben's world having government agents demanding to see papers from anyone who has a tan along all border regions is small government.

^ You have to remember that it is balanced out by getting rid of the Department of Education, Agriculture, Health and Social Services, Commerce, Interior, Labor, Tranposrtation and Energy....

The federal government is supposed to only be Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs.

He's still not sure about State and Treasury

Locking them up just means they didn't take some jobs they could have, which means there's jobs for more people to sneak in to get.

So once again, Ben's advocating an approach that will only feed the rich and not accomplish anything else. Ben, why don't you want to put illegal immigrant felons to work building the wall?

To me it's a matter of priorities. If it's raining cats and dogs and my roof has a horrible leak i am not just going to put a bucket under the leak to catch it, i am going to find out how to stop the leak.
Of course i could just swap buckets when one gets full, but that would take me away from other things that need to be done.
So, to me if you don't want the rain water then you fix your roof.

I have listened to politicians wring their hands and talk of the problem for years, it's time to fix it or change the law so there is no one to arrest.
At least if we make them all legal (unless they commit another crime after their arrival) we won't be pissing away ax dollars on incarceration and those who work will pay in to the system.
