  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

Which singer's death were you most sad about?

Without a doubt, Karen Carpenter. She had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard and she died way too young and so tragically. Her singing of Ave Maria brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it ....

In hindsight, she was anorexic and looking terribly ill in this clip. God, she had a magical voice.

Yes, she was. The Ave Maria recording was made in 1978 and she died in 1983 after battling with anorexia for years. She was only 32 when she passed away. I was devastated when she died.

As was mentioned:

Karen Carpenter
John Lennon
Freddie Mercury
Michael Jackson

Others:

Donny Hathaway
George Harrison
Harry Chapin

I'm sure there are more...

For some odd reason Michael Hutchins of INXS - his death hit me hard.

I second that. I'd been a HUGE INXS fan from 1983 on.. the thing that was the worst were all the morning talk radio people making jokes about his death. Pretty much was the final straw for me listening to commercial radio, some of it was SO vulgar.

The absolute worst however was John Lennon - I grew up listening to the Beatles and I'll never forget that day... how could I? My 'sweet' 16th birthday was on Dec. 9th 1980, and I woke up that morning to Beatles music on the radio, only to find out he'd been killed late the night before.

I cried all the way to school. :(

Deb.

I've read all the posts, some names I have not even heard of. For me...
John Lennon
Freddie Mercury
Luciano Pavarotti.

The Hong Kong singer and actor Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing. You'll probably remember him from Farewell My Concubine.

Not so much for his music, or films, but for his suicide, and what must've brought him to that fatal decision to end it all.

i wasn't a fan of the band, but it's sad listening to Sublime's "Santeria".
always sad to see great potential cut short like that. Brad Nowell had a nice voice on him.

Gotta agree with the Karen Carpenter choice. Loved her melancholy sound on "Goodbye To Love" and "Superstar".

I didn't even realize that Dan Fogelberg had died until I just read it on this thread. Was just listening to a song of his the other day, "Hard to Say". How and when did he die?
