Pretty much, when a thread out right claims I'm a racist before I read it then I apologize (not really) that I don't come in with open arms on a discussion. Also, I'd rather commit Seppuku then vote Republican, ever.

I have seen other groups go to the GOP, the blue collar workers did this and were in effect voting against themselves.
One reason they moved right was because of gay rights.
Where I see your point is in a few posters who complain about those "on the dole" make remarks about the "thugs" or infer that blacks just aren't as smart as other races. There is resentment and as is the way of the GOP, they will dangle that carrot to gays, not as a group, but as "exploited tax payers" who worked to get penalized by having an evil government take their money and give it to those who don't try.

There is no such thing as privilege - male, white, straight or whatever other target-du-jour - there are only situations where we can all use our freedoms and situations where there are still problems.
Equal marriage will be removed from the list of problems soon enough throughout the developed world. This is because gay people could count on the support of a population that is more open, better educated, and more dedicated to solving problematic situations than it was even a generation ago.

Blacks have been taught that Republicans are racist because they do not pander to blacks. BUT democrat policies of abortion, welfare, and massive immigration are hurting blacks more than anything else. And, while blacks are given easy abortion, others are given easy immigration. Blacks think democrats gave them affirmative action, but they gave it to all other minorities including immigrants, so it does not mean much to blacks.

The thing is, "privilege," isn't.
Racism is not a zero-sum game, where one person's disadvantage equals another person's advantage. It is a negative-sum game, where there are only losers, and greater losers.
Also, if we accepted that privilege was a thing, anyone who thinks equality is the ethical thing to pursue would then be working to make sure everyone has privilege. It's nonsensical.
73% of black children are not on welfare. I'd also add that there are actual stats on the engagement of father's with children born out of wedlock and black men hands down are the group that is the most likely to be actively involved in the lives of children whose mother they were not married to.
Now having said that. Diversity increases the intelligence of groups. Black republicans who are not the knuckle dragging homophobic sort are cool in my opinion. As are gay republicans. Both groups if they increase in number can actually force the DNC to take gay folk and black folk seriously in a way that they simply will not if they are guaranteed the votes of said groups regardless of whether their policies help or harm them.

Highfalutin and an attempt, maybe a useful attempt, at shifting language. But the realities that are being described by all the privilege talk are, well, REAL. I do agree that racism, sexism, etc harm everyone; but to be honest I'm not certain that anyone other than an academic should be focusing on shifting the language around this. The practical realities of police harassment, higher HIV rates, the achievement gap, etc seem to me to be a better place to focus one's energies. But you're a good guy. Fight your fight.

The reason I fight the fight is because the language of privilege came out of academia. I watched it happen ever since we've been invited to unpack our imaginary backpacks. It's a stillborn zombie of a word that only catches the imagination of people who've been excluded from something, but the academic roots are ridiculous, and I can't figure out how it would ever be a smart political strategy to convince millions of people that they're on to something good by being able to enjoy their rights while others aren't. MMmmmm! Privilege! Sign me up for gold points! You know, I think maybe I'll keep that card after all!
The term needs to go back to academia to die. And honestly I hold academia accountable to come up with a better replacement.
Oh, and I agree with those practical realities! Those things are exactly the focus of the civil rights/human rights discourse that immediately precedes this doctrine of privilege. Boldly go where we've gone before, and let's end this 20-year detour.
I'm comfortable with the language of privilege and the desire to deconstruct/unpack everything, but I'm a bit of a navel-gazer by nature.

Right now an increasing number of white children are growing up in households where their parents don't marry. The child stays on Medicaid and the mom gets ADC, if they vote, they in large part vote Republican. Why? Because the Dems. will take their guns, the Dems are only for minorities, the Dems are weak on defense, and on it goes.
A lot of white blue collar guys (I worked with them and lived around them) don't carry auto insurance.
They claim that what they pay in taxes is given to blacks and foreigners in , wait for this... welfare. They don't see ADC for their kids or Medicaid for their kids as welfare.
Bill Clinton said that the era of big government was over, general welfare went with it, but according to these paranoid whites, blacks and foreigners still get welfare, whites can't.
