16 yr. old has sex change

Feeling like your physical shell does not reflect your true gender is not like believing the shirt you're wearing is the wrong color for your skin tone. It's not an annoyance or an inconvenience--for many, it's torment. It's often a constant feeling of not being "right"--one feels trapped or caged, an alien walking around in false skin.

More power to this young woman for taking the step at this age, and more power to her parents for supporting her.

I think it's better to realize and have it done early so they can have a chance at a more normal life.

More power to her. :)

This.

With parents supportive like that, why not? Waiting longer is stupid, time is too precious so let this person enjoy her life as a true woman as soon as she can. Teens with 16 can drive, cast votes, do lots of stuff. Why not choose their gender, when this is something that disturbs once since childhood anyway? Doubt 2 years would change her mind.

Gay and transexual people are also usually more mature than straight people of same age, because they go through lots of crap and suffering that straight people don't even need to think of.

Best of luck to this girl. May her new life be blessed with lots of happiness.

That's kinda sad. I'm really open minded and all.. But I never understood why someone would go as far as getting a sex change. Just suck it up. Put on a dress and go clubbing. Who the hell wants a vagina anyway.

How hypocritical of you. Open minded is something you certainly don't seem to be at all. Many many people also say things like that regarding gays..."What man would want to suck or be fucked by a dick?".
About altering yourself...well...yet again, many many also consider homosexuality a choice, therefore, altering yourself.

Educate yourself a bit more 'cause you're sounding almost like those who are against homosexuality.

Jesus Christ, read what I wrote a post or two after. I said I wasn't being serious. Holy Christ.

And homosexuality isn't a damn choice. Anyone who thinks so is incredibly moronic.

It's about what you MEANT with that lil' "jest" of yours.

And how should it be different with transgenders? How do you know YOU are not being moronic? Because what you're saying is that it is a choice...being a transgender.

I can't believe you all are supportive of a teenager having a sex change.

There's a massive difference between say a 30 year-old having one.. and a 16 year-old. Huge difference.

Do you know how many 16 year-olds out there don't even know what their actual orientation is? The whole point of being a teenager is to learn and discover who you are.

This kid was 16... He had so much to learn about himself. Life isn't about sliding through it without any problems.

So he wanted to be a chick... Big deal. I know teenagers who want to be soldiers in the army.. But the second they get a taste of it, they're done. Now this boy has to live the rest of his life as a woman.

And if he doesn't tell his bf/gfs then I it's very dishonest and rotten of him. Some people do not like that stuff at all and will be creeped out by it.

He should have waited until he was an adult with more life experience... I've asked a lot of people tonight about how they felt towards this.. And they all very much agree with me.

At 16 he still isn't even fully developed. This whole thing was really screwed up.

And the next moron who claims I'm not open minded oughta get smacked. I am incredibly open minded. I don't care if an adult goes and gets a sex change. I DO care if a child or teenager does though. They're too damn young.

I don't like sex changes period, I'm not a fan of mutilating your body. Wanna wear a dress? Cool. Wear a wig to work and have everyone call you Shanay? Fine by me. Invert your penis and staple your balls to your thighs? Uhh, Houston, we have a problem.

Have you not read any other post except the one I was joking around in? If someone feels as though they should be of another gender.. Fine. Go for it. I just don't support such a thing when it comes to kids and teenagers. I think it's disgusting. And either way, it is altering yourself. You were MADE a boy.. so what if you're a chick on the inside. Like someone else said, that can be seen as empowering.

Again, don't care if ya do it.. But don't deny the fact that you had to change who you were to be happy.

Change is unavoidable in order to be happy...whatever that change is. Have you really convinced yourself that you haven't had to change yourself in order to be happier?

Of course I've changed myself. Not in a drastic way like changing my gender. I've dyed my hair and crap like that. But that's hardly comparable to something like a sex change. Either way, that's not my issue. My problem is within a teenager having such a risky alteration made on him just because he feels trapped within himself.

Not to sound like an ass, but get over it. Every damn teenager feels trapped. It's part of growing up and realizing who you are. If at 18 he still wants to be a chick... Go ahead. Be my guest. At that point you're a legal adult and can do whatever you want anyway.. except drink.

I wont deny that I've altered myself in ways. I have no problem with admitting that. Believe me, I wish I was born with blue hair. But I can accept that I wasn't. I was born with blonde hair. That's what I was made into... A white boy with blonde hair.

So at 19 I finally decided to start dying my hair and "oo look.. piercings.. " and I was pleased with it. But I can't deny the fact that I had to change things about me to be happy with my appearance.

Yeah but in this case is not exactly about appearance. It's deeper and more problematic than that.
In any case, you're not in his shoes to judge how he feels. Period.

You're the one who is not listening. You compare people wanting to have a sex change to someone wanting to go into the army. I'm sorry, but that's just ignorant.

I've known a number of transgendered people, and they all knew from early on they were "wrong." In the reading I've done on the subject, and the interviews I've watched with transgendered people, no one's ever said "you know, I always felt like I should be the opposite gender, but then I just got over it one day." I've also never seen anyone say, "oops, I wish I hadn't done it." Does that mean such a person doesn't exist? No, they might. But the majority of these individuals went through hell most of their lives up until they went through the change, and after the change they felt "right" for the first time ever.

The reason so many people think it is wrong is because they are just as ignorant on the subject as you appear to be. Many people find the whole subject of gender reassignment as disgusting or wrong, so it's not much of a stretch to find they don't agree in this situation with her decision. Someone who has never felt this way can never understand just how terrible it can be for these individuals, and if an operation like this can help them feel normal in their own bodies, then why should they be denied that?

And this young woman is not the youngest person to have her gender changed--she's just perhaps the youngest who's ever done the full-blown hormonal process. Doctors have had to perform the procedure on younger children because of biological problems.

Okay, people.. listen. I have ONE problem with this.. and it's the person's age. That's it. My opinion. Stop calling me ignorant. I just don't think someone that young should have such a risky and life changing alteration made on them.

I don't think sex changes are wrong. I just don't support them on anyone under 18. He was an unhappy "trapped" teenager... welcome to the real world. Just about every teenager feels that way.

You may not think they are wrong, but your condescending attitude of "You were born a BOY, so what if you're a chick on the inside" is still ignorant.

It's not ignorant.. It's called - I don't give a shit.

I don't give a shit if you think you should be in a female body. I don't give a shit if someone wants a vagina over a penis. Fix yourself up... -I don't give a shit-

All I'm saying is that you're only lying to yourself if you go "It's not alerationnnn" Uh, yes it is. You went from dick to Sarlacc.. Don't tell me that's not an alteration.

Like I said, I've altered myself as well. I'm not gonna dye my hair blue and go "this is 100% me".

If you knew me better you would understand I'm completely 100% not ignorant. I understand what this kid must have been feeling.. But I also understand that all teenagers are tortured in one way or another. It's part of growing up... Part of becoming who you are.

For the millionth time, my only problem was his age. I don't feel he was old enough to make such a decision. The parents I asked about this tonight were appalled by the fact that this kid's parents let their young teenage son go make a huge drastic change. And these are very open people.

My family is very diverse and therefore we are forced to be accepting of things like this. We've all known transgendered people.. The family is littered with gays, bisexuals, lesbians, different religions, colors, political views... everything.

I fight every day for my own acceptance. I remember my childhood and teenage years of wishing I was straight.. Because I didn't know any better.

People grow up and change. This kid still had a few years to contemplate on the issue. A lot of things change over the course of a few years. You learn new things about yourself.. about others.

This kid needed more time. That's all I'm saying.

God you're thick! YES, you're being an ignorant. Why? Because you STILL refuse to understand that on top of all the usual adolescent emotional/psychological rollercoaster...she had to deal with the fact of not feeling "right", in the wrong body. So no...you do NOT understand AT ALL so stop acting like you do. You clearly don't.

That's your problem...you don't give a shit. You SHOULD give a shit.

It's unfortunate that you couldn't have just expressed it that way from the beginning, instead of coming off flippant and ridiculing, and then later callous and insensitive.

At least, that's how I took it. ](*,)

So, did anyone read the wiki link I posted?

Is there any truth to it?

Could publicity have had anything to do with this person’s (and his/her parent’s) decision?

I read it, K, and I took it more as she used the music career publicity to push for being allowed to get the change early, instead of using her operation to get publicity for her career.

To Fucker:

OMG I care that this person was suffering.. That's not what I was expressing non care for.

I said I don't care if an adult has a sex change. Be my fucking guest.

And I'm sorry, but she's not the only fucking person who didn't feel right in their body! You're SIXTEEN! SUCK IT THE HELL UP!

I have no pity for a teenager who plays the "I'm trapped card". They all are trapped! On top of the usual crap, there's always.. ALWAYS a more personal problem they must face.

That is my fucking opinion and it doesn't make me ignorant. You are the most ridiculous person I have ever spoken to. You toss the word ignorant around like a dumb ass. You don't even read what I write... You skim through and just jump into the argument with more bs about "ignorant this.. ignorant that". Grow the hell up.

Life isn't a fucking paradise. It's full of misery and hardship. Point me in the direction of one happy teenager.. Who isn't suffering from their own personal issues.

This kid's problems are no greater than a child with no legs or arms.. No sight no hearing.. or someone who lives in a war torn environment. Those kids will never be able to change those things.

This particular kid had something to work towards. But no, this kid wanted to be a girl. Give me a break. It's upsetting, but don't give me the "It's a tragedy!" bull shit. At least he had the option to change himself. He was too damn impatient to try and live and become stronger. So whatever. Good luck to her.
