ABC cancels "Roseanne" after star's racist tweet

That's a separate matter. Women are not protected by the PC police. You can say "bitch" all day long and it's cool, because it only refers to women as lowly dogs. But you have to watch anything racial, as "nigger" is much worse, unless you're black and you use it in a cool way, like saying "bitches."

You must learn the hierarchy of offense.

Woman as a dog is not as bad as a black person as an ape? Rreally?Hmm...I'll keep that in mind, i think.

We are talking about women degrading eachother in the media, there are enough presidential threads. Lets stay on topic. Rosanne used racism and Samantha used vulgar sexism. Those are similar. Why is one ok and the other isn't.

Neither is, but without me knowing what Bee said, there is no way to take what Roseanne said as a joke. It was just phobic and racist.

Why is one ok and the other isn't.
Neither is okay.

Who told you otherwise?

You do know what "sexism", is... right? Calling someone a "cunt" is tasteless but it's hardly sexist. "Feckless" on the other hand...

No. Calling a woman a feckless cunt is NOT ok, no matter if it comes from a man or a woman. That is sexist and un acceptable.

That definition has nothing to do with calling the 'woman' a derogatory name.

(actions based on) the belief that the members of one sex are less intelligent, able, skilful, etc. than the members of the other sex, especially that women are less able than men

You should have looked up the 'C' word as well:

an offensive word for a very unpleasant or stupid person

Not sexist.

And here's 'feckless':

weak in character and lacking determination

Not sexist.

You do know what "sexism", is... right? Calling someone a "cunt" is tasteless but it's hardly sexist.

Using a slang term for female genitalia as a slur is quintessentially sexist. If a woman calls a man a dick, it is the same.

Equating gender with a derogatory putdown is considered sexist by many people. If it were listed on a survey of which terms were sexist, I think the majority of feminists would mark it as one.

Context. Samantha used the term feckless cunt accusing Ivanka of not being to control her boss in a work environment. Fits perfectly.

Unless it’s an asshole, no one ever claims one is okay and the other isn’t. It’s a made up argument to make it look like someone is making a point.

And let’s not pretend Mikey cares about the context of what is being said, rather he cares about who it was being said to. So fickle.

It's "what-about-ism" which is what Right-wing news outlets do when they don't have a rational case to make and/or they just want to stir everyone up.

It's the same game that children play.
Mother: "Joe, did you eat the cookies?"
Joe: "Billy did it first!"

What Billy did is a question worth investigating but it doesn't change the fact that Joe ate the cookies.

In this case, a comic used her personal platform to insult someone by saying that she was the cross between an Islamist group and an ape. This same comic has a long history of saying some fairly irrational and offensive things in social media. When confronted, she doubled-down and continued with the insults and posted an old insulting picture of Michelle Obama and an ape.

In the other case, a comic on a scripted show read a story about an immigration policy that intentional separates children from their parents as punishment for the parents crossing the border. She then pointed out the tone-deafness of Ivanka Trump posting a picture of her holding her 2 year old child in her arms during the same weak when stories came out about US Immigration being unable to account for 1,500 immigrant children that were placed with foster families. She ended that story by insulting Ivanka Trump for not doing something about her father's immigration policy.

There's not really a good argument to be made about a comic- on her own personal time and not reading a script- insulting a former White House aide by referring to her as a Muslim extremist (which she is not) and an ape (which she is not). There's also not a good argument to be made to support separating children from their parents and then losing track of the whereabouts of some of those children.

So, instead we'll play "what-about" to try to change the subject and pretend like two completely different situations are the same.

This is what happens daily now. There's a White House that is doing some pretty shitty things on a daily basis. It serves their purpose well when there's 130+ posts arguing about "Who Did It Worse?" instead of actually doing something to get the awful people doing this stuff out of office.

Or it's about simple truth. The words can't be taboo and then not be taboo. Using the words not invoking epithet or slur cannot be verboten. The left asserts that to the fail of its own cause.

No one wants to use the N word to deprecate blacks. It would fade away altogether if blacks would stop using it. It is used not in memorial or homage to the tortured and murdered, but trivialized in pop culture.

The guilty are the ones making a fortune doing it.

The tortured acrobatics employed defending it are obvious to any rational mind. It's the yeah but what you don't get is syndrome. As if.

You are kidding, right? Do you honestly believe that? There are plenty of other racial slurs that are not edited in every day slang and aren’t used by black people. I mean the one this thread is about, black people being refered to as apes isn’t a thing I have ever seen or heard black people say to each other. And that's just one example.

What a ridiculous statement that is a continuation of putting the responsibilty on the oppressed. Apparently never gets old.

Unless I am mistaken, the slur 'feckless cunt' can, according to the definitions posted in #128, also apply to a man, can it not?

That doesn't make it not sexist. Schoolboys call others "pussy" all the time in an attempt to bully them, deeming them week. The same is true of "whiny little bitch." The same is true of "that's gay." If a noun becomes an epithet, it categorically indicates contempt for the defined object.

I don't recall you being in such a high state of dudgeon when Ted Nugent called Hillary a cunt or when they were selling these at trump rallies.

So just stop with your fake outrage.

I understand how familiar to the term you must be, by your frequency of both giving and, likely, receiving that particular compliment, but try to view the situation from a civilized man's perspective, unless, of course, you consider your intellect on par with, ahem, Ted Nugent.
