TWO MOST SHOCKING RESULTS MOMENTS ON IDOL:

1. The night Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia & Letoya London were the bottom three and Jennifer ended up going home.

2. Melinda Dolittle not making the Finals.

Last night was sooooooooooooo crazy my jaw dropped all the way to the fucking floor! I knew Jordin was going to make it, but I always wondered "wouldn't it be fucking crazy if Melinda gets voted off???" and then I thought no, that would never happen.....

Honestly guys, I didn't vote for Blake last night because I don't want him to win that awful Clive Davis contract of doom, but I figured Melinda would get the most votes so I voted for Jordin the whole night.......

Crazy-ness.

Melinda may have had the most talent...but she didn't have the internet "buzz" according to this yahoo article. Indications of who is in/out seem to coincide with internet search popularity...Melinda came up well short in that. Makes me wonder if the producers of AI take note of the "buzz" as well...and not rely solely on phone in votes.

While this week's results may have shocked "American Idol" observers, we had an inkling that Melinda Doolittle was in major trouble. Searches on the humble singer never took flight, and her amazing pipes just didn't bring in the Buzz.

After Tuesday's three song extravaganza, judge Simon Cowell declared that he wanted Melinda to make the finale. Although his bold opinion may have mobilized a few voters, the former backup singer still trailed Blake and Jordin in searches by a wide margin.

Over the last week, Blake Lewis pulled down five times as many searches as Doolittle. Fellow diva Jordin Sparks outranked Melinda in Buzz by a factor of four. In another important popularity indicator, Melinda only drew 20% of her searches from teens. Compare that to the 31% notched by Jordin or the amazing 55% brought in by Blake, and you'll see that Doolittle needed to do more to connect with that all-important voting bloc.

That said, we weren't going to bet against Melinda's amazing voice and predict an early ouster based solely on Buzz. But according to search interest, this result was a long time coming. And we should know better than to be shocked by the tendencies of a fickle voting public.

not that I really care...I didn't vote and I'm also not disappointed she is out.

According to the article though, Blake had the most searches...thus most popular. I'll be curious how this holds for the upcoming week. I'm still rooting for Jordin though.

... how is she black? One of her parents is black and the other is white. Wouldn't that make her an "other"?

Its not fair how in this country, people who are half black and half white are labeled black and are forced to deny their white heritage.

In the song "Controversy" Prince sang, "Am I black or white," but then he also said, "Am I straight or gay?" I wonder who decided for him.

I hate AI and never watch it - I get plenty of it on the morning local news show, "Good Day L.A." and they frequently have the ones kicked off show up as guests, right after they have been eliminate. I guess that's because it's the Fox network. David Spade was on today, but only via telephone, and I was expecting Melinda.

either way Melinda is going to do her thing now. she'll be able to make the songs/cds that she wants to make and show the world like another idol that left early. That they made a huge mistake. The girl has the total package regardless.

I could not care less about AI ... I sometimes may watch the auditions to goof at the idiots who THINK they can sing and once the competition starts its off the air for me ... and I'm oblivious until I hear who won .. on the news!

So, mildly surprised that Melinda went.

Am I the only one that noticed she fumbled the first part of "I'm a Woman" on Tuesday. She sure did, and it reminded me of how Haley screwed up words Paula said no one would notice if you don't call attention to it. Melinda did a good job of hiding it but, IDK, it kinda justifies, for me, her going home.

Blake Vs. Jordin should be entertaining.

Jordin is multi-racial. Her mom is white, her dad is black.

Oh please, don't make it about race. Blake is more young and hip then Melinda. She is too old fashioned and the majority of the AI audience is young so of course they will go for more younger and hipper people to win. If you didn't notice, Jordin is Black and she will most likely win, and the top 4 consisted of 3 black females. So please, don't make this about race, and I think you yourself should be idolizing someone other than Al Sharpton too. What a joke!

Melinda was voted off because she's a professional. Every time I hear one of the judges tell her how good she is, all of my friends say "No shit," she's a professional back-up singer for Aaron Neville. She better be good."

In the future, rules should stipulate no contestant can previously or currently work in the music industry. She already had her break, and now she has more opportunities. Neither Blake nor Jordin has even come close to making the connections she already has.

Yeah, I like Melinda, but she isn't an amatuer. That's like letting Fred Astaire enter Dancing with the Stars.

When it comes to voting for an artist who has more of a R&B style and etc... the AI voters don't know how to judge correctly.

The Whole idea of qualifying to vote is not even considered in AI. AI's voters are American. And I agree American on a whole doesn't know how to appreciate music, of any kind really, because half of what we hear on the radio isn't music by definition anyway.

A) Melinda wasn't THAT good. The girl that was kicked off right before her was better, actually, as far as talent goes. I love Melinda, don't get me wrong. She has a great voice and great personality. But she's not the best talent on the show. Jordin is. Hands down. She can sing the best. Not as good as Kelly Clarkson or Digarmo (sp?) or a few of the other seasons...but she's damn good and only 17. She's going to win.

B) Blake was better than Melinda technically. Melinda is that 1 in 10 person. She's got a good voice but no uniqueness. Show business is all about uniqueness. Blake's got the edge on that.

C) Maybe there was some rigging in the votes. MAYBE. Because I could pretty much guarantee that if both of the girls made it to the finale, it would be pointlessly bland. There's no variation between the two, really. Jordin has the younger audience, Melinda has the older crowd. Split vote. Pointless show.

D) Regardless of any of this, the top 4 definitely are going to have albums out. They are all household names. Bam. The music industry is so easy now.

wow lets check the facts before we rant...jording HAS sent around demo tapes trying to break into the industry, and probably using some of her daddies connections...

When all three contestants guested on the Tonight show w Jay Leno. Melinda
stated that sometime they would check out the internet to see what people were saying about them. She said that many thought she looked like SHREK.
Perhaps that had something to with her low votes. l think Blake got more votes
due to sentimental reasons because of his dad was always crying... "oh, l
wasn't able to pursue my dreams, so l'm so proud of you son..boo hoo hoo" l
really hate when such shows play the sentimental card.
