Another Hollywood celebrity to come out on May 5th [Chely Wright]

Hell, bisexuality and lesbianism is practically encouraged in women...especially attractive women like Shelby Lynne. It might turn away some of the redneck country fans,

Everyone knows that conservative white people have the best, kinkiest sex lives on the planet. If anything, they would publically pretend to be outraged and then go jerk off to her later.

(see: a certain star of many recent comedies, who remains on a hot career hot streak, sham marriage and all).

I believe Hillbuzz are referring to Matthew McConaughey.

Could also be talking about Ryan Reynolds.

Shelby Lynne is fucking awesome. Congratulations to her if she's the one to come out; though for those of us who have followed her career for years, it certainly wouldn't be a shock.

The thing is, I just don't think it's that big of a deal to be a lesbian in this country. People don't seem to care nearly as much as they care about famous guy being gay. Hell, bisexuality and lesbianism is practically encouraged in women...especially attractive women like Shelby Lynne. It might turn away some of the redneck country fans, but it's not like she's a household name anyway.

The thing is bisexuality and lesbianism are seen as aspects of heterosexuality (from a straight male point of view of course). I often wonder if the world were run on a heterosexual female point of view if it would be different. Would handsome gay men be to women in charge what beautiful lesbians would be to men in charge? Makes the mind wonder.

I have a feeling it will be Stanley Tucci, for some reason.

Though... what if Sandra Bullock had enough of men after Jesse James? ... Just sayin'!

JC Chasez could be the one. He's often seen in the company of what is presumed to be his boyfriend.

current Advocate story

E! Online, abuzz with gossip that a celebrity is coming out of the closet in a major magazine on Wednesday, took the opportunity to ask how Hollywood keeps gay stars from living openly.

Is it legal for a movie studio to have a clause in a celeb's contract that prohibits them from being openly gay? Wouldn't that be considered discriminatory?
—Ande, Los Angeles via Facebook

Interesting topic, given that some closeted celeb is due to come out next week. (And will E! Online have all the details? You bet we will!)

About your question, let's put it this way...

If any company tried to tell any full-time employee—say, for the sake of argument, that Disney hired Adam Lambert, and ordered him not to talk about his gayness—that sort of contract would go south quick.

First of all, the studio would be dealing with Adam Lambert. And second, attorneys tell me such a contractual demand would probably be illegal. But what about contracts that don't involve an employee relationship—like, say, an agency and an actor?

The answer my shock you:

I talked to an array of people for this story, ranging from well-sourced gossip columnists to top-flight attorneys. And none of them flat-out denied that such contracts exist.

In fact, at least one source tells me they do exist, but not necessarily in the explicit way you might think they do. From what I am able to gather, a contract between an agency and an actor may dodge the exact issue of "coming out." But it might ban other sorts of telltale activities.

Angela Agrusa, an attorney at the entertainment law firm Liner Grode Stein, says she hasn't personally seen any such contracts, "but I'm sure they do exist." Nonetheless, she wouldn't be surprised if contracts were more vague—couched "more in behavior modification terms—you won't be seen in public holding hands with so-and-so, that sort of thing."

Why? Well, Agrusa explains, asking a star to outright deny or decline to discuss sexual identity might be considered voidable by a judge—even if the relationship isn't that of an employer and employee.

Which brings us back to our soon-to-be-out mystery gay.

Sure would be interesting to know exactly what type of pressure—contractual or otherwise—has kept them in closet, don't you think?

Ummm... they seem to have forgotten the "morals clause" of a celebrity's contract, which has existed since time immemorial.

Exactly. The concept of two women together is MUCH more accepted in our society than two men together because let's face it, social morality is constructed by the heterosexual males in power.

But only if they are hawt. Fuck the bulldykes.

You DO realize that young lesbians are hated by straight girls, right?

Yes, pretty lesbians might have it better than gay men do in some ways, but it's just a tiny bit asinine to say that gay women have it completely easy.

Of course I know that lesbians don't have it completely easy, but I'm pretty sure that article was just an EXTREME example. Generally, people have a much better attitude towards attractive lesbians than gay men and "butch" lesbians. Just because there are still accounts here and there of racial crimes doesn't mean that people are generally racist. From my account, discounting religious people, young women generally think either that lesbianism is "edgy and cool" or at the lowest, "gimmicky," and men generally think it's sexy. Overall, there isn't as great of a stigma towards gay women as there is towards gay men.

Read this on a site. I hope it's not this nobody chick!!!!

I'm not going to jump on the disappointed bandwagon regarding the star coming out on People's cover May 5, but I will admit I had no fucking idea who country singer Chely Wright was until five minutes ago when Queerty told me she is the most likely candidate.

She has a book and album dropping momentarily, both with "I just came out!"-esque titles.

And for a D-list star, she does have Howard Bragman as her publicist.

(Edited for truthiness)

And exactly, because it turns them on. Gay men are cool with gay sex because it turns us on and we enjoy it. I've made a thread here asking about transgenered people recently, and every single response was "EWWW!! TRANNIES ARE FUCKING GROSS! THAT'S NASTY!"

Notice how we become intolerant of things we don't like, too?

Well, either of us will never really know about this. We should both try asking a significant number of lesbians about their whole coming out process, and compare it to our experiences and the experiences of other gay men.

What if its a woman? Nobody here would care.

I like how we have an announcement of an announcement or somebody announcing theyre gay. Who cares.

Well, for one, there are a lot more out lesbian pro-athletes than out gay pro-athletes. And then there's the whole "trend" of female celebrities coming out as bisexual to no real hoo-hah.

I blame it on some straight men. They are the most insecure creatures on the planet.

I know who Chely Wright is. I'm familiar with her music. However, this is a bit of a letdown, LoL. Why all the buildup for someone that 90% of the general population doesn't even know? Chely hasn't had a big radio hit since the 90's, and even then she was sort of a flash in the pan. Maybe that's what this media blitz is all about. Perhaps she wants to use this to re-ignite her career.

With all the buzz, I thought this was going to be someone big. Possibly a male. Lesbians are already more accepted in society than gay men so I was really hoping this would be a well-known male celebrity.

Oh well. Kudos to Chely.

I have never even heard of her. I have no clue who she is. I heard her publicist booked her on these shows without telling the show who the celebrity was. That the shows saved a slot for the celeb probably thinking like we all did. I could give to shits to be honest. This chick would be like my neighbor coming out. Good for you now lets all move on with our lives. No life changing thing here. A big male celebrity may have really opened doors for other younger celebrities to come forward. Huge let down.
