both my parents have stayed together.... and because of it, i believe devoutly in marriage... and in true love in general. i guess i'm one of the lucky few who has that kind of blind faith. but either way, i don't think i could be friends with someone who felt i didn't have the right to marry whomever i choose to love. we live in the UNITED STATES IN 2009. its appalling to think people in this country actually think we should not have the right to marry whoever the fuck we want to. be it either another man or a mailbox.

I don't do drugs, but have friends who do.

And do they feel that you don't deserve the same protections under the law because of that?

I have friends whose diet/lifestyle is killing them.

And would they vote to have your rights taken away?

Friends who spend money recklessly, and do all sorts of things I disagree with.

And do they think you're a second class citizen?

So what?

Well call me crazy but I'd never be friends with anyone who looks down on me. Someone who thinks I don't deserve equality. And why would someone like that want to be friends with you? I mean they don't think your family (should you ever have one) deserves the same protections that they take for granted.

What are friends for, but to overlook some things, and to be forgiving?

Well ok... I'll tell you that friends are NOT for voting away your rights.

Would you be friends with a member of the KKK? How about a member of the White Supremacist front? A Nazi? I'm not sure I see the difference with being a friend with someone who thinks you're beneath them. I'm so sick of gay people who just shrug off our oppressors as "oh well... they have a different view."

Why not ask a jewish person if they could be friends with a nazi? Same thing in my book.

Gimme a f*cking break! Someone who opposes gay marriage isn't even remotely the same as a Nazi. What an ignorant thing to say. What the Nazis did to millions and millions of Jews does not even remotely compare to someone thinking marriage should be between a man and a woman!

I love who these same groups and people who preach (and expect) tolerance only do so when it relates to them and their beliefs. Very hypocritical, and, yet, very typical.

Wake up and smell the fruit punch. Your rights have been taken away from you. Today marriage, tomorrow who knows what they may vote on. Camps for all gay people to live in? It could happen.

LMAO......okay, deary. Highly doubt it, though. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that never happens. Paranoid much?

And my rights haven't been taken away. Gays never had the right to marry in the first place. And for my "rights being taken away," I must say I live a pretty happy and successful life.

And what is ironic is I bet many of you had no problem going into to the polls last November and voting for a man who is now our President and has state that he believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. Is he a Nazi?

Well.. where do you draw the line... thinking we're a second-class minority... taking our rights away... removing any legal protections.... paying us less... having a "gay" water fountain.... evicting us from our houses.... firing us from our jobs... throwing us in jail.... exterminating us...

I mean, what's your threshold?

Lord have mercy. Again, we never had the right to marry! Nothing has been "taken away from us!"

Ummmm...and you know as well as I do that gays are going to be thrown in jail or exterminated for simply being gay, at least in America. Gays have received even MORE government protections over the years...not less. Come on now...I know you are trying to make a point, but going to extremes only makes you look paranoid and ridiculous.

Oh I should have known. Another self loathing gay republican. Now run along dear I think your rush limbaugh is on soon.

Um... yeah, it has. In California gay people had the right to marry and the people of of the state voted to take away that right. That's what PRop 8 was.

Really. Learn your history. It wasn't that long ago that gay people were thrown in jail for just being in a gay bar. And although we're not being "exterminated" exactly, there are lots of people who still think the "gay panic" defense should be allowed... as in "he hit on me so I killed him." Some people think that should be justifiable homicide.

Gays have received even MORE government protections over the years...not less.

not here in California. We for the right to marry and it was taken away from us. There are lots of initiatives in the states where gay marriage is legal to take away those rights.

Not knowing what's going on in the country is making you look clued-out.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -- Edmund Burke

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then... they came for me... And by that time there was no one left to speak up."-- Martin Niemöller

Between Niemöller and Burke, I am persuaded to take the erosion of rights in California very seriously. Nazis didn't start out with gas chambers at extermination camps - they started by winning an election. These things have to be watched. We're not that much more civilized than they were just a blink of time ago in my grandfather's day.

Comparing a gay person being friends with someone against gay marriage to a Nazi and Jew is ridiculous.

Comparing a gay person being friends with someone against gay marriage to a black person being friends with someone against interracial marriage or intergration? That's more appropriate.

Like a said, "Ms Daisy's your bessssst friend".

Someone who opposes marriage equality believes that I am inferior by nature and not entitled to equal rights. I am not friends with people who believe that I am inferior.

yes. it is their opinion.

now if they tried to actively stop it, then we'd have a problem.

It's our responsibility and our burden to educate the unenlightened so that they may learn the error of their ways. We must be patient and show empathy, as it must be difficult for them watching their world view crumble into dust. Time is on our side and they know it. It is nice having the occasional, if limited, temporary court victories. It's good for our morale, and sends a strong message to the breeders that their days a numbered: tick, tock, tick, tock...

"I'll bide my time you little pretties..."

Sometimes you have to blow on the dust to actively make it crumble. Sometimes, it could take the shock of losing a friend to wake someone up. Sometimes, even if you don't change their minds, you have to stop enabling the fantasy they have that they can "be friends with you people" and still claim extra privileges based on who they are. Sometimes the only reality check you can give a friend is to kick them to the kerb. Not always, but that's reality.

Well and bankside is right.

I mean, Joe the Plumber said he'd never let one of his "queer friends" near his kids. We wondered what kind of gay person would be friends with a person like that.

apparently the majority of JUB.

you're not being their friend.. you're enabling them. My family only learned to accept my family when I made it clear that Carlo and I come as a package deal. If you don't accept and support us both you're losing me from your life.

they went to PFLAG meetings, learned, understood and now march in pride parades. you have to slap them in the face just to get their attention.

I'll say it again.

What a boring world it would be if we were all alike.

Hell, I'd leave such a place in a heartbeat.

If you don't agree, well, then I hope you clones enjoy yourselves....

And some are so selective that they become caricatures of themselves.

Jeesh, you live in the world, not the gay world.....
