Current gas price in your area?

So here's the question...

Has the current price of gas made you change your driving habits?

It hasn't really changed mine but I use very little gas because I use public transit to get to work. I fill every 3-4 weeks

Just curious

I don't actually use a lot of gas. In 4 years I've only put 20,000 miles on my car. I live 2 miles from work. Still, I am feeling it when I do fill up. I do try to consolidate trips. I don't just run out for something anymore. I wait until I have a few errands in the same area and do it all at once. I would say I'm feeling it more in prices for other things, especially food. So I am cutting back on some specialty foods and premium items I used to buy. I'm also going to lower price food stores. The biggest thing is the job market. I feel much more job insecurity these days. Which makes things all the worse and is taking a toll on my nerves.

^^^Whew! Am I happy that I live in an area where I would be lucky to pay just 600 or $700 a month on rent.

That's ridiculous raising rental costs like that when the whole world is in terrible shape with gas.

Right now the highest is $4.09 and the lowest is $3.97. We've reached the breaking point! It rose from $3 to $4 in four months time...how sad. I stopped driving once it reached $3.25 I think.

When I stayed in Birmingham, England in summer 2006, gas was £0.89 a litre I believe. Back in Fort Lauderdale, it was around $3. The lowest it dropped to was $2.05 in March 2007.

I paid $3.83 per gallon today 6/2 at a local Flying J stop. I was happy not to have to shop elsewhere. I pulled up and got it on the way.

Shep+

Good idea. They are so expensive. :(

Depends on what you are comparing it to. The Toyota Prius and Honda Hybrid Civic are less than the average sales price of a new car.

I think that the Smart Cars are around $16k, which is not a lot for a new car.

The base price is $11,590 http://www.groovygreen.com/groove/?p=2100

The smart car is made by mercedes...

Avg is $4.29 in Van Nuys, CA. It literally went up 20 cents in 2 days. Isn't that nice, since crude oil has come down in price?

I've seen the Smart Cars around town. They look neat, but won't hold much stuff inside. If gas keeps going up, the Smart Car will look more appealing. :-)

Piggy...where have you been? Gas prices may decrease in the short term...for a month or so...but over the long term, it will keep going up....plan ahead for it so you wont get caught up with the other people who wait until they are in trouble.

There are other small cars that you may want to look at as well. I'm not sure what their gas milage is but I would guess that they are pretty good as well. The Smart Car is promising becuase it has done so well in Europe, is made by a company that most people respect for high quality, and it is pretty dang inexpensive.

I have been doing a lot of driving this week, meeting up with friends and doing errands so I needed to get some gas sooner than I normally do.

May 30th, I paid $4.14/ gallon. That same gas station has it at $4.36/gallon right now.

I went to another station tonight and just paid $4.24/ gallon for regular unleaded.

The gas station accross the street had regular unleaded for $4.40/ gallon

Diesel is $5.10/ gallon

$4.01 around here today. The first time I've seen over $4 in Georgia

$3.91 point nine today in Peru, Illinois on the way home. Everything else, with few exceptions, was $4 or more. It's $3.97 point nine in my town Macomb today.

A couple days ago I passed by a $3.71 point nine in Toledo, Ohio a day after I thought I'd gotten a "bargain" at $3.87 point nine in the same city. (Sorry I never got in touch Riverrick, I had a LOT crammed into the trip...)

It's now up to 3.99 at most Texaco gas stations. Still some gas stations are still between 3.80 and 3.89 a gallon. That's below the national average from 4.02 just today.

Analysts on CNN are saying that there could be some relief in sight with drilling for oil in northern Alaska. It may harm some wildlife that is out there but there should be sacifices that can be made to resolve this heartache. We can't be paying close to $5 for a gallon of regular gasoline. But I heard this won't happen until another few months. Not to mention, the gas tax thing is a joke. On the Today show, an analyst for NBC said that if McCain wanted a gas tax holiday it would drive up demand for oil and it would only spike our gas prices higher.

I think we are living in a time now that all of us are in fear of gas prices than anything else. And to that, I will agree.

Hybrids are the way to go. I would totally use a car that had 50 mpg on it. If the automotive industry put many hybrids on the market a few years ago, two-thirds of the population would had been able to do away with smaller fuel-efficient vehicles nowadays. There were a few hybrids on the market last year but it never reached a nice capacity like its doing now. I knew I would had bought one if they only put it on the market a few years ago. But I am driving a 2000 Impala that's not doing me any good if I was putting $20 in my gas tank. That's enough to get me nearly a half of a tank. My mom drives a Reno and it's an economy type car and if she put $35 in her gas tank she can already be on full.

I remember doing a research paper on hybrids for my Composition class in college a few years ago and I remember reading an article that said there could be certain hybrids that can depend on solar energy to operate instead of depending on oil. But that was a time when it was an ideal concept to curb on global warming. Now I've been hearing that since SUVs and minivans are on a slump, automotive industries now want to create hybrids for those vehicles. I don't think it's going to work out because it will only drive up the demand for diesel oil for the number of people in this country who will put more fuel in those type of vehicles than the ones using the smaller hybrids. It sounds like a resolution so those type of vehicles won't lose so much on demand that can affect the profits of the companies. It's just still a sour idea to come up with that concept when there are millions of people paying over $4 in gasoline and nearly $5 on diesel fuel. But if they are willing to do that then diesel fuel will only be two dollars more than the national average for unleaded gasoline.

$4.05 today for cheap gas

Yesterday it was $4.09 today it was $3.98 for 87 octane in MI. Across the state line in Indiana it is $4.09. The gas station by work had a malfunction in there sign today. I wish I had my camera....It said $9.09 a gallon. I told my partner if it keeps up that will not be far from the truth!
My partner and I just went and got new cars. They are 08 Ford Focus. They get great gas milage and drive nice. They are not overly roomy but they will do! His is Vapor silver and mine is a sporty red. At $3.94 a gallon it took me $25 to fill up on a half a tank. They get about 400 miles to a tank of gas. (!)The sales man said they cannot keep them on the lot!
