Dharun Ravi Indicted in Tyler Clementi Suicide

Much of the gay community is superficially vicious and vindictive. It's easier to blame one kid than to face more complex social issues. Either way, here's a couple of links, all from Huffpost, but written by different people. None of them proves anything other than that there are multiple viewpoints and none of them are in the minority.

Josh A. Goodman: Tyler Clementi's Suicide: Best to Look Not Only at Ravi But at Society at Large

We can't know exactly what led Clementi to commit suicide, but while Ravi may have contributed to matters and certainly didn't help them, it's safe to assume that his actions were not the only contributing factor.

Dharun Ravi And The Tyler Clementi Trial: Was His Sentence Fair? Vote Now! (POLL)

Less than 50% think he should have been given harsher sentencing. In a clear cut case that would not be the case. 50.37% of the people who voted in this poll do not share your opinion.

Dharun Ravi Sentence: Letters To Judge About NJ Webcam Spying Case

Allen, a member of the Navy:

"I am gay and I know what bullies are like. Dharun Ravi did not bully Tyler. ... and he does DESERVE to live in MY country that I fight for. This jury decision was clearly influenced by media, it needs to be overturned."

A group identifying itself as "members of South Asian Lesbian Gay, Bisexual and Tran Communities," including scholars at Rutgers and the University of Massachusetts:

"We would like to point out that gay, lesbian and trans young people are bullied constantly in this country, and there have been many other suicides reported in the press that occurred as a result of bullying. However, we are not aware of any of the bullies in those cases being held responsible in a court of law for those suicides ... We believe that Mr. Ravi would have had a very different experience of the judicial system and the media had he not been the son of immigrants. We do not believe that justice for a gay man can be bought with injustice against an immigrant."

Dharun Ravi Sentencing: How Should The Former Rutgers Student Be Punished? (VOTE)

The voters are absolutely equally divided between all 5 options.

But you do? I will remind you of this post next time you whine that people don't provide sources. I gave you sources for my opinion that the gay community is equally divided. You choose to ignore them because they don't fit your version. Well too bad.

Well, you want him DEPORTED, so obviously you care about that too, no?

And what proofs have YOU provided that the case is clear, he SHOULD have been given a harsher sentence AND that the gay community in general thinks like you? (which needs to be the case as you claim it's all perfectly clear).

I think 30 days was a bit too lenient, but deportation definitely falls on the other end of being too harsh.

my understanding is that Ravi moved to the US when he was 2. it's not as if he has any type of life in India to go back to... who knows if he even speaks the language fluently or knows any family there.

That to him it is a totally foreign country makes deportation fall under "cruel and unusual punishment".

Well, his parents chose to accept the benefits of the USA without relinquishing their former citizenship, didn't they? That's opportunism.

^ well in that case it's good that this young man is reingaging with his ancestral homeland

I'm no quisling and I take responsibility for my actions

Note: I'm using the world 'quisling' not as a traitor but as someone who gives allegiance to two sovereign nations simultaneously

I wouldn't worry about him, Roly.

This obviously-wealthy, bi-national family will be pulling strings. They obviously know how to use the systems of their two countries in to further their own needs.

So you think that because of actions in which he had no decision-making contribution, it's okay to subject him to cruel and unusual punishment?

That's barbaric.
