Do gay people really go to hell???

God made me as I am. God loves me as I am. I believe that if I am a good person, I can avoid Hell even though I'm gay.

To quote Jesus, "No one is good but God."

I doubt that God made us to be attracted to other men -- but you're right, He still loves us, just as he loves the child born with spinal meningitis, who I HOPE you agree He didn't intend to be that way.

We suffer from deviant DNA due to the Fall. If in fact we are born this way, I think it's because of DNA drift. But so is albinism, and I can't help but think that God delights in that one -- so I strongly suspect He can delight in what we are, as well. As someone said, we may not be what His perfect will planned, but we are still His, and within His allowable will (or He wouldn't have allowed it).

It amazes me that in the 21st century, we have the technological capability to explore the darkest corners of our infinite universe, yet the vast majority of the 6.5 billion people on this planet still cling to irrational supernatural ideas like God, Heaven and Hell for which there is not one shred of credible scientific evidence and which defy all common sense, logic and reason.

Very common mistake you make here.

Just because Jehovah and Allah make no sense doesn't mean that there is nothing to the whole idea of God.

God makes perfect sense once you liberate yourself from narrow ancient ideas about It.

The Living Universe encourages the growth of sentience and morality, creatures like us who are able to understand, and perhaps correct, the random harm or 'natural evil' which freedom and interaction inevitably create.

God is not a person, though we naturally personify It in our minds. God is a mechanism in us, which developed in us to keep us in touch with the very real "greater good" that does in fact exist.

Wake up, people! There is no God. There is no Heaven. There is no Hell. These are all concepts put together by a bunch of foolish, superstitious old men thousands of years ago for purposes of maintaining the patriarchal status quo, subjugating the masses, and offering primitive explanations for that which ancient man could not understand. Have we not evolved beyond being able to question that which makes no sense instead of accepting it hook, line and sinker without a second thought??? How very sad.

This is it. When you die, there is nothing left. If there is an energy force -- a soul for lack of a better term -- that leaves us when our material beings expire, it has no form, no consciousness, no sensorium, no emotion, no reason. We are not going to be reunited with all our dear departed loved ones and live happily ever after in paradise for eternity.

All that we can do is live our lives well, hold onto the fleeting moments of joy that are to be had in this impossible, fucked up world we live in, and treat each other with kindness and respect. Death is a part of the life cycle and is to be embraced as a freedom from the pain, suffering and hardship that characterizes our mortal existences -- not something to be feared such that we have to invent fairy tales in order to delude ourselves and assuage our anxieties about something that not one single living organism has ever been able to avoid from the time that the first building blocks of life came together in the ancient primordial sea.

I agree. http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91384

You don't actually know that, now do you? It may well be true, but there are in fact perfectly good reasons to wonder if there is in fact some surviving residual. You overstate your case.

Why be kind, then? If this life is all there is, (and I agree that's likely) and there is no overarching "greater good" (though in fact there is), then self-interest should trump kindness every time.

There's a place in the Cayman Islands called Hell. I imagine a lot of gay travelers get there eventually although the C.I's aren't all that gay-friendly according to the not-so-recent rep.

I'm tellin' you guys!! God has retired! He was ousted from his usual CEO position by Pat Robinson, Karl Rove and others.
You might feel the Holy Spirit for about 30 seconds these days but h/she moves on after that. Too many hucksters try to take over her/his business.
Message: Distinguish very deliberately between the Message and the Military/Industrial Complex that is what gets called the Churches.
Flee!!!

Heaven? Hell? I doubt there is neither. I'm with GUST OS0 on this one.:D

I'm not posting to explain my personal beliefs, or force those beliefs onto anyone, as has become the pattern in this thread.

Now, to answer your question...well, I can't, and no one here can either. You can't ask people what you believe. Everyone has their own views and opinions. If you ask "if gays go to Hell," then you'll receive a slieu of answers tied up in each individual's personal bias.

I suggest you evaluate your own beliefs. If you believe in the religion you are "a part of" then analyze what that religion actually preaches and not what is propagated by "devout members." Don't ask everyone here, but ask yourself. Do you think that all gays go to Hell?

Goodness, this one pops up again.

I won't go into any great detail, as it seems that's all I have done lately. But I can tell all of my fellow christians that EVERYTHING used against gays in the bible can be disproven to be relevant.

Also, when people use "sexually immoral" against us, they must also note that eating shellfish is listed as an abomination IN THE SAME CHAPTER of Exodus.

Anyway, why would God make us gay if we would be living a life of sin? Sound illogical to me.

This one pops up regularly; for a while they were getting merged into one massive thread that's still alive.

I disagree that "everything" used against gays from the Bible can be shown to be irrelevant; some of it in Paul's writings is indeed troubling.
As for the Old Testament material, God himself declared it not applicable to Gentile Christians, and by extension to Jewish Christians not born into the Old Covenant relationship.

The "God made me gay" thing is a whole different bag of worms.....

Do gays go to hell? Yes. Do gays go to heaven? yes. I don't know what I believe about an afterlife at this point in my life. But if there is a heavan and a hell, then being gay in and of itself can't possibly define your access to one without the other. Your arrival at on of the two gates is dependant on choices you make with your free will. Since you can't choose your sexuality, you can't be condemned by it. It's that simple. Otherwise, you were damned to hell from the get go... and there is no way that could be correct.

Agreed. Gay or straight, you may end up either place, I think...

VERY excellent post, jockboy!
We get so tied up in saying "yes" or "no", who stopped to think of the plain answer that gays can go both places? Well, one of my fave JUBbers did!

People used to believe that being born blind was because of someone's sin, that disease was proof of being wicked. But when the disciples asked Jesus about it, He said that wasn't so, but all things are there so God can be glorified.
So even if being gay is a "defect", it doesn't make you evil or wicked by itself... and it's there so God can be glorified. Glorify Him, and I think the book says you don't go to hell....

Hell is white man's creation; let him keep it. I've been taught, and I believe, that when I leave this path of life and go on my spirit journey to go to the place where our ancestors are, everything good that I have done on my path of life will come back to me five times. Everything bad that I have done will come back to me ten times. Who among us is perfect? I just try to make sure the good I do on my path of life will outweigh the bad.

As for taking the Bible literally: Didn't Jesus say something about if anyone wanted to follow Him, they should sell all of their possessions and give the proceeds to the poor? Unless they are wearing sack-cloth and have no shoes on their feet, they are hypocrites.

In Islam, there's no guarantee that any of us a human being can go to hell or heaven. If we strictly practise Islam, follow all the instructions from Quran or hadith, still hell no way to determine our fate in afterlife.

That's why I don't want to be extremist. Just believe in one God and Muhammad pbuh, be good to other people, practise Islam like what I believe, then hope for blessing for God in afterlife as what he did to me in my lifetime.

Since you can't choose your sexuality, you can't be condemned by it. It's that simple.

Could not have put it any better myself ... and we will never know if we're definitely going to heaven or hell until it actually happens. Too many variables!

Okay.. They say God is just... if he really is just then everyone would be going to hell. Everyone.

I believe God is merciful.

I don't think gay people go to hell really. As much as we don't know why people are gay, where we came from, is there an afterlife, or will we just become decomposed material I think we'll all go to the same place. Religion / dogma just states it. It's so traditional and really old. I think it's not a sin to be gay. It's just a fact of life. Gay people don't decide to be gay... They're made gay. I don't think God ever wanted to create something he'd immediately hate and decide instantly that will go to hell. no way.

If the human spirit survives the death of the body, it will be a natural process, one we all go through. There will be no "tricks" or "requirements", except perhaps that there could theoretically be more trouble for those whose spirits are incoherent or unhealthy, in which case those spirits might fail to make the transition, or might be "damaged" in the process.

Personally, I worry much more about the living hells all too many people are caught in right here and now.
