It amazes me that in the 21st century, we have the technological capability to explore the darkest corners of our infinite universe, yet the vast majority of the 6.5 billion people on this planet still cling to irrational supernatural ideas like God, Heaven and Hell for which there is not one shred of credible scientific evidence and which defy all common sense, logic and reason.
Wake up, people! There is no God. There is no Heaven. There is no Hell. These are all concepts put together by a bunch of foolish, superstitious old men thousands of years ago for purposes of maintaining the patriarchal status quo, subjugating the masses, and offering primitive explanations for that which ancient man could not understand. Have we not evolved beyond being able to question that which makes no sense instead of accepting it hook, line and sinker without a second thought??? How very sad.
This is it. When you die, there is nothing left. If there is an energy force -- a soul for lack of a better term -- that leaves us when our material beings expire, it has no form, no consciousness, no sensorium, no emotion, no reason. We are not going to be reunited with all our dear departed loved ones and live happily ever after in paradise for eternity.
All that we can do is live our lives well, hold onto the fleeting moments of joy that are to be had in this impossible, fucked up world we live in, and treat each other with kindness and respect. Death is a part of the life cycle and is to be embraced as a freedom from the pain, suffering and hardship that characterizes our mortal existences -- not something to be feared such that we have to invent fairy tales in order to delude ourselves and assuage our anxieties about something that not one single living organism has ever been able to avoid from the time that the first building blocks of life came together in the ancient primordial sea.
