HBO's new show "Looking" starring Jonathan Groff

You guys got to understand it's also the leads first boyfriend or "love". He's still learning about himself and like all of us with our first live we are oblivious to how we make them feel.

If the lead portrayed ~21, sure, I'd believe that but he's 28. That's the kicker for me and I'm sure a few others. Some older guys might buy into the "late bloomer" stuff but most gay guys will have been around the block in a relationship at least once before that point. If not, good chance as to why they remain single.

Wow you guys are a bunch of miserable queens I think this show is mad real a bunch of guys who are looking to find their way and I think the show been good since the 3rd episode.

The characters are meant to have a bunch of flaws like everybody in real life had flaws.
And I'm not Richie bandwagon homie was willing to call the relationship off as soon as it got a little rocky.

I don't get the hate the show is extreamly acted well and the writing is superb(ie; we find out more about the main characters through their relationships and not with a bunch of exposition)

But honestly I'm rooting for Rich and the lead.

The lead is too much into his head and Rich is too much into his emotions they balance each other out perfectly. I'm down to have a legit convo about the show and the chachters that's why I loged back on to this site after years of hiatus but it seems like y'all just wanna see whether it's good or not.

I agree. I like this show and it appears to be getting progressively better. I would love to smack Augustine though, I can't tolorate guys who shit on their friends like he did with Patrick. If I was Richie I think I would have slugged him about his comment to Patrick about slumming it. What a dick. The wedding should be a fun watch. I know it probably won't happen but I would love to see another season and hour long episodes.

We're miserable "queens" because we have different opinions? Whatever you say, "thug".

If my recollection serves me, Richie was willing to call it off because they were, at first, clearly looking for different things. Expecting your date to have an uncut dick because your friends said most Mexicans do kind of has that effect. Looking at pictures online and being disappointed that it didn't match reality was another sign... and that was in the third episode.

You guys got to understand it's also the leads first boyfriend or "love". He's still learning about himself and like all of us with our first live we are oblivious to how we make them feel.

It's actually his 2nd love. His first love was shown in the first episode - the guy that was getting married. The episode where he made a smart move and took Richie up on his offer.

Well, until the very well done 5th episode, we really didn't know much(or enough) about ANY of the characters, except for Dom. I don't know what you consider to be exposition, but it seemed most people were in love with the fifth episode because of a blowjob (coyly unseen of course), and honestly had they taken that out, the episode probably would have been BETTER. Of course, that's my opinion.

The lead is too much into his head and Rich is too much into his emotions they balance each other out perfectly. I'm down to have a legit convo about the show and the chachters that's why I loged back on to this site after years of hiatus but it seems like y'all just wanna see whether it's good or not.

Of course I want to see if the show is GOOD or not - that's why I watch it and form an opinion on it, rather than have people ion here do it for me. If you want to have a "legit" conversation about it, then do so - just don't come into it expecting everyone to agree... and calling people miserable queens because they don't see the same things you do in it doesn't really endear your cause.

I think you are making a huge assumption on people's maturity levels and personal development. There are a lot of factors behind why he probably hasn't, and I think this affects a lot of guys:

1. He clearly hasn't completely shed trying to live up to family expectations
2. His friends also haven't been encouraging any relationship with guys he has tried to date.
3. Emotional detachment as a security blanket...the longer you are emotionally closed off, the more layers you put on to remain that way
4. If you lead your life looking for perfection, you tend to find flaws. He seems like a character who has done this in the past but is turning a new leaf with the help of Richie
5. Thinking your in a relationship when really your just fucking.

I'm 25, never had a boyfriend. I can honestly say I suffer from some of these things, I'm just not as much of an asshole about it as the lead haha.

Amen to this bro. I really wanted Richie to clock his ass because that comment was out of line. If we are really being honest, the only character who might possibly be in a different tax bracket (36.9K-89.3K) is Patrick...last time I checked barbers/hairstylists make a lot more than starving artists and waiters. I don't understand how the rest of the characters eat and afford rent in a city like San Francisco, let alone PAYING FOR SEX, without pullin tricks themselves or selling drugs.

I think Augustine feels some undeserved sense of superiority/entitlement because he is a "creative". I mean, black guy (debatable-but thats a WHOLE different topic) with cheetos at a picnic is just as classless as any other nationality, but I am glad they showed this clip because that is the kind of mentality that all black people (and other minorities) have to deal with, especially with gay guys sadly.

Ok last thing: Anyone else falling more in love with Richie after this past episode? I havent had a man crush this bad since my Freshmen year wrestling coach! Ok I'm done.

I don't feel like replying to everyone so I'll just say what's important

First of all to assume 28 year olds especially guys like Patrick to have experience love and a true relationship (not fucking for 2 years and hanging out) is kind of you know a false blanket of reality. We don't know the depthless of the married guys relationship.

Now about the exposition part homie made a rant about if you still don't see anything about those characters and what they really are like through their relationships Dom and the flower shop guy and Patrick and Richie then fine you don't see it. Sometimes certain things aren't meant to be dumb down and for everyone to get. Maybe it would take you next season. We'll probably find out more about Augustine next episode but you can tell with certain comments he made what type of person he is or even the type of person he pretends or try to be. The same can be said with Patrick and Dom you kind if saw the real Dom when he kissed him it's a pure action but it holds so much weight behind and now he's in dilemma. He can go for a guy he really likres or he he can just have a business relationship

As far as keep watching stuff because you wanna find out it's good or not?
Bull shit

People been complaining about walking dead for the past 3 seasons and people will sit at 9pm on Sunday to talk how bad it is within the hour. All I'm saying if you don't think it's a good show you wouldn't keep watching it. Your telling me your about be 7 episodes ( like a whole season) deep into it and you not feeling it?
Lol
Yeah right buddy

Like I said let's talk about the show instead of having bitchfest about it

All these characters are sympathetic and dispicable at the same time

As far as calling it off they wasn't in a relationship during that time so I wasn't referring to that obviously I'm referring to the last episode.

But since we are on that uncut thing yeah it was insensitive to say but it ain't that serious to be all butt hurt about but I don't know I'm from NYC we cut from a thicker skin out here

No pun intended lol

I just got HBO again and saw the last episode and it is weird watching because the nailed the people I knew working in the nightclubs and going to parties...dating...friends...I can even name the guy who fit each one of their personalities. Kinda freaky how realistically they wrote the characters. That is rare.

If the lead portrayed ~21, sure, I'd believe that but he's 28.

Because all 28s are mature as fuck while the 21s are plain idiots. Even if you were right, it´s what gives the lead character a reason to be the lead character.

Let´s face it, some of you that constantly come back to say how bad the show is got stuck on the idea that it sucks and there is no way of you recognizing that maybe you were wrong. And some really don´t like it. But you sure as hell watch it closely and end up making lists here about some characters´ flaws. It´s laughable. You don´t like? Naw turn off the fucking tv. You don´t have to watch it just because it´s gay themed.

For the past years I´ve seen everyone crying about how gay people are stereotyped as feminine twinks who fuck everything with a pulse and are as superficial as your average pop star. Then, why do they use pumped up guys. Then, why do they use perfect bears and not your average next door neighbor. Now that they USE the next door neighbor character it seems that it´s too blunt. I really can´t understand it.

Personally, it´s the first gay series that I´ve seen for more than 2 episodes, it´s really really well done and it shows things without exaggerating or lacking information.

ps - I don´t like Richie :P I hope he´s out soon hehe

^If the could address the problems of season 1, specifically pacing, I feel the show will improve greatly.

There needs to be a sex scene between Kevin and his HOT boyfriend. That is all.

wow...really!?

I feel compelled to give this show a "second chance". I dropped off at episode 3--but I'll watch the latest few and try again. I am determined to "see" what others see in this show.

It gets better. Episode 5 and 6 are the turning point.

I wish I could watch the first five...I have only seen #6

Come on Man!!! You can't just say that without giving reasons. That is the point of a FORUM. [-X

Oops! I mean it won´t bother me if he stays or not, it´s a tv show and you get what they give you (why I hate when everyone says ¨it should be like that, it should have that etc¨). But I don´t like the character´s personality (but the actor is pretty damn good!), it seems like the cute guy that´s fucked up and will eventually do stupid crap. Which is why they will probably keep him hehe..

If they don't put more black characters in season 2, then I'll continue to not watch this show. Sims 4 would be out by then and I can make my own gay show. lol.

Yea, and if Noahs Ark ever comes back, which I loved, I'm not going to watch it if there are not more white guys in it.](*,)

Glory be! The show has survived all the negative minutiae. I love Looking. Thanks HBO. Looking forward to season two.
