HBO's new show "Looking" starring Jonathan Groff

When will season 2 debut? Will we have to wait until 2015? :S

I really dig the show

Re: HBO's new show "Looking" starring Jonathan Groff

If the lead portrayed ~21, sure, I'd believe that but he's 28. That's the kicker for me and I'm sure a few others. Some older guys might buy into the "late bloomer" stuff but most gay guys will have been around the block in a relationship at least once before that point. If not, good chance as to why they remain single.

Sorry, you don't speak for me. I'm 24 turing 25 soon. Never been in a relationship and I'm mature for my age. And i'm still perfectly content with being single at the moment. It's a few of the ones around me that don't know how to handle love, sex, and their emotions.

I think seeing it from the outside looking in towards my friends relationships, I'm able to observe and learn what most are doing wrong. (Even though I know being in one, one can learn more). I definitely know not all gay guys are like that, but when I see alot of immaturity around me in terms of relationships, I can easily be single at the moment. It could just be the area I'm in though and I'm military. I have been out since 14, so I could just be an exception.

But just because someone has been single since 28 has a problem with them. I don't ever like that reasoning. I find that thinking shallow to be honest.

Yea, and if Noahs Ark ever comes back, which I loved, I'm not going to watch it if there are not more white guys in it.](*,)

Noah's Arc isn't as successful as the hbo show is, whether you want to agree with it or not. Plus at that time social media wasn't as big as it is today for pop culture to spread around.

plus that's the very reason I hated Noah's Arc. It took place in la, yet all the characters were black and none of them had any white friends or partners and that just seemed very unrealistic.

If they don't put more black characters in season 2, then I'll continue to not watch this show. Sims 4 would be out by then and I can make my own gay show. lol.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, San Francisco is 48% white, followed by 33% Asian. Only 6% black...self identifying hispanic 15%. Furthermore, if we estimate that only 10% of the population is gay, and only 1/2 of them are men, there should really only be White and Asian characters and maybe a hispanic guy, statistically speaking.

What is the basis for this comment, besides you personally wanting more black characters on the show?

Have you not noticed that none of the extras are black either? It is because there aren't that many black people in San Francisco.

In reality, it has exactly enough black people(1-debatably:confused:). If this show was happening in D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans, or New York there would be a lot more, and it would be an entirely different show...but this ain't that.
If anything there should be more Asians and more Hispanics.

Why can't you value the show for what it is showing? GAY characters (plural) on mainstream TV in leading roles with situational (as opposed to slapstick Will & Grace sitcom) humor. I am sure HIV and other issues will come later on if it gets support, but those type of story lines need to be developed or else they lose their potential. I get your frustration about being underrepresented but to put more black people for the sake of black people being in the show wouldn't be representative of this microcosm of America.

Glad to see the status of Raul Castillo (Richie), Lauren Weedman (Doris) and Russell Tovey (Kevin) go to full time cast members.

I'm just saying it would be nice to see a gay black character as I'm black myself.

The only time you see any type of interracial gay action, it's nothing positive. Prison shows do not count.

Yea I understand your frustration as I am black myself, but I just know I'd rather it be done right rather than risk being inauthentic to what these people's lives are actually like. And you have to take into account that the ethnic experience in the gay community is something that good Hollywood writers probably dont have enough experience with, because there aren't as many of us. Trust me, this show lays ground work for that to be done, but its still farther down the road and should be done correctly and appropriately. The last thing I would want to see is 5 black guys in stilettos around a table sipping white wine or a group of DL "thugs". Plus it is still in season 1, I am sure more people of different ethnic backgrounds will come into the script next season...hopefully some Asians...we just have to keep watching and support!

So why is he at his sister's wedding with his boss? Smh. Richie is way too cool for this dweeb.

I hope nothing happens between Patrick and Kevin. I want this Richie thing to work.

Really. What was that all about? Patrick was a total mess and he should have just sucked it up and been there for him no matter what an ass Patrick was being. This is what you do when you love someone, if he indeed loves him. Haven't heard those words from either one yet.

What are you talking about? They are in the beginning of their relationship, who said anything about love? My partner is, like many here, a fan of Richie and he look at me funny when I said that Richie seems like the guy who runs away in a second when the first thing he doesn´t like happens.

Good or bad move, the episode was entertaining.

I said "if" he loves him. Of course I am coming from a different perspective as I fell in love with my husband of 34 yrs. the second I layed eyes on him and I was only 17. I knew that night I was going to spend the rest of my life with him but he checked out early. I am a fan of Ritchie also just stating how he just left Patrick hanging there on the road with all the shit he was already dealing with.

Yeah I guess we put personal stories over what we see on tv. Personally, I don´t believe in love at first sight (lust, maybe, love comes later) so maybe that´s why I see it this way. None of them said more than just ¨being boyfriends¨. There are some feelings there, sure, but I see it more as ¨lets see where it´s going¨.

I love Richie, but I actually don't want him with Patrick. Something about the two doesn't quite work for me. At least, not as well as Patrick and Kevin work for me. The chemistry was a little more there for me since their first scenes together. In a way, I hope that Richie becomes his own character, separate from Patrick. I would like to see more about him.

On a different note, does anyone else not care for Augustin? My opinion of him has gone downhill throughout the season.

I don't

I don't. He exhibits traits I detest in a man. He shits on his friends and appears unable to be supportive and happy for them. He lies to his boyfriend and has him have sex with a hooker for his own personal gain. I'm glad he is on the show because, lets face it, guys like him exsist in the real world.

Augustin has a horrible attitude. I never had a high opinion of him and I was over him when he made that "slumming" comment... and he can't even split rent! #-o

Oh yeah...they sure do exist. I am cool with guys like Augustin socially as long as I see who they are and keep them at arms length. My problem is when they complain about what "happened to them" and I have to decide whether to say what I really think or keep my mouth shut.

My favorite guys are Dom and Frank and the guy I like the least is Kevin. I like Richie too but I don't see the chemistry with Patrick. I thought it was good that he left because he sensed the vibe...I hope he found a ride home:mrgreen:

^

I like Dom and Frank also. I'm just curious, what don't you like about Kevin? He has not been the center of many scenes so I haven't really formed an opinion on him yet. He becomes a regular next season. Just in reference to their characters, I like all of them with the exception of Augustin. He's a dick, and not in the good way.

i dont like patrick he is annoying he doent dederve richie or anyone else, he augustine deserve each other
