HBO's new show "Looking" starring Jonathan Groff

^

I like Dom and Frank also. I'm just curious, what don't you like about Kevin? He has not been the center of many scenes so I haven't really formed an opinion on him yet. He becomes a regular next season. Just in reference to their characters, I like all of them with the exception of Augustin. He's a dick, and not in the good way.

Too many years behind the bar in a gay club is why I dislike Kevin. I had more than a few "Kevins" interested in me and we don't click at all and they are pushy and arrogant...kinda like when he kissed Richie in the bathroom while he was there with his BF. Those types of guys don't think other people's rules apply to them. When he was talking to Patrick it looked like he wanted to eat him and that was when he was with Richie. I really dislike that type of men...but who knows...they could write him different I suppose in the future.

The problem is that most of these characters are petulant which is why it is easy to dislike them. It's the: "if I can't have my way, I'm gonna throw a hissy fit and then make everyone sympathize with me after I lay waste to everything around me." It may work a couple times but after that, you just let them have their tantrum and ignore them like the elephant in the room they are.

They should have made 'Looking' an anthology and had three or four seasons (max) in different cities with different characters. Chicago, DC, and New Orleans/Miami/Dallas would have been good options.

I can't see following these characters for longer than 10 episodes or so - maybe Dom and his funny girl roommate can move to a different city and make new friends leading to season 2.

^Yes Looking has been renewed for a second season. My guess is it will return at the beginning of next year.

I don't know what you guys see in this show. They don't even have a black acting white guy. Queer of folk had that for fucks sake.

I am glad that there is finally a show that has gay characters I am familiar with. Maybe it is San Francisco...I was familiar with the Tales of the City characters as well. I rarely can relate entirely to any fictional character so it is kinda eerie for me to watch them....

I like the show exactly how it is....look forward to watching season two now. Going forward..I dislike Kevin even more tonight that I did last week. I think Patrick is a mess because he knows the truth but likes to pretend it isn't the truth...too bad it will be at a lot of other people's expense. I don't think he is the type to overcome his upbringing.

I still like Dom and Franck the best.

By the finale last night, the show is starting to gel for me. (I binge watched episodes 2-8 yesterday)
It took them way too long to flesh out who everyone was, but at least now you get a sense of who they are and what drives them.

I had suspected Augustin had rich parents and/or a trust fund, and that seemed to have been confirmed in the finale-- he was getting the money to pay CJ from somewhere.

The Richie/Patrick thing seems sort of doomed-- too much to overcome in the class differences there and I'm hoping they don't take it in the direction of "working class Richie is really in touch with his emotions in a way that uptight yuppie Patrick isn't and teaches Patrick how to feel"-- that whole nobility of the common man is a bit played.

Similarly, I'm hoping they don't try and create a Brian/Justin (QAF) thing out of it where they are constantly breaking up and getting back together and even if they don't know they're right for each other, the audience surely does, etc.

I like Dom and Doris - that whole relationship seems real, Dom and Lynn, too. But I'm still struggling with how he's good friends with Patrick and Augustin-- the fact that he and Patrick had a one night stand doesn't seem to be enough to base a friendship on-- they would seem to have very little in common.

Guess I will just have to wait for season 2...

I don't know what you guys see in this show. They don't even have a black acting white guy. Queer of folk had that for fucks sake.

The actor who plays Frank is half black and the character is portrayed as a black character. Including Richie and Augustin as Latino characters, the show is actually pretty diverse for its small cast.

Kevin showed his true colors in this episode. After doing Patrick and Patrick asks him where do we go from here, he says I don't know and splits. I believe he is a user out for his own gratification and nothing else. Augustin was again in his usual form. The way his face lights up when he tells him maybe it's over with Ritche. He appears to get enjoyment from other peoples troubles, nasty. I don't think I'm ever going to like him.

Dom has always been and remains my favorite. He's kind, sensitive and appears to really care how his friends are doing and feeling. My kind of guy. Looking forward to season two.

Mine too, but it's still unclear why/how he is friends with Patrick and Agustin. He may have hooked up with Patrick once (that was referenced in one of the last two episodes) but they seem to be unlikely friends

Patrick is a true friend to Agustin who is a privileged jerk and selfishly played with Frankie's emotions. Glad Frankie kicked him out, now Agustin might grow up some. Richie has his own issue but does like Patrick a lot. He's willing to work it out with him. He isn't about fucking Patrick and leaving him. In fact Richie offered to bottom for Richie and top him when he was ready.
Kevin has wanted Patrick since day one and finally had him on bottom and fucked him. That could spell problems for them both in their working relationship and with Kevin's partner.
Dom is really into Lynn and finally showed his affection strongly by kissing him.
The show will be back next season. Great ending or starting point for next season.
I think Richie is my favorite, hairy latin with a tender soul.

I really enjoyed this season and I'm sad it was so short. The Richie and Patrick episode was one of the best 30 minutes of television I've seen in a long time.
I don't like the other characters quite so much. Augustin is a jerk, but I don't care about him much anyway. And Frank barely existed. Dom is okay.

I think Patrick will be stronger after the events of the finale. I think he knows what he wants now, and it isn't Kevin. His insecurity drives much of what I find interesting in the show. I'd love to see him with Richie, but Richie was spot on about Patrick not being ready.

I'm glad I went back and gave the show another chance. It wasn't until the latter episodes that I finally started to care about the characters and "feel" something from this show. I think it just got off to a relatively slow start, but it has actually grown on me. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with this next season. They've set things up for some good storylines and character development.

It's funny that I didn't think I would like Dom at all, but he's pretty much my favorite now. Patrick is just...I don't know. Sometimes I like him, but I've lost count at how many times I've rolled my eyes at something he would say or do. Agustin is most surprising for me...because I go back and forth between liking him and despising him. He's the type that would be a good friend, but you would have to constantly "check" him, if you know what I mean. I do relate to his "trying to find himself" ordeal...minus the selfishness.

I would like to see Patrick and Richie really work out at some point, but I can tell there may be a lot of drama before they have their happily ever after. Patrick needs to grow up a bit first.
Very excited to see how things work out for Dom as time goes on though.

also: dat ass on Russell Tovey! :dead:

I loved the finale except the last 5 minutes, but I blame my expectations on this since one doesn't have to expect anything from a TV show.

My thoughts... Richie is a troubled man and he should take his own advice and grow the fuck up. patrick is young at mind and does mistakes that will come after him, but then again didn't we all do crap in our lifetimes? He didn't do wrong to anyone though, so that's why Richie is not a good option for him since he needs someone with a mature way of thinking. Augustine thinks about himself to be an artist because mummy and daddy didn't get him the right car for his sweet sixteen and Dom finally grows up emotionally.

Interesting season, slow start but nice plot twists.

I wasn't into Patrick and Kevin having sex when Kevin has a boyfriend and Patrick was still sort of in a relationship with Richie. Also the way Kevin lured Patrick back to work claiming to need help with something when he really didn't was kind of creepy. You can't start a relationship that way. But, since they did have sex at the office, how could they not use those chair swings!?!

It feeds into the nonsense that most gays purport of an "open relationship". In the real world, it just doesn't work in the long-run and it's obvious to see why.

Yeah half black in real life, his character is very fair skinned, and he isn't even American. And I don't watch the show, but is he being featured that much?

Latino isn't a race and some even identify themselves as white. Asian guy was killed off right.

Only seen the premiere episode so forgive me. I'd rather see two dogs stuck together after mating.
