HBO's new show "Looking" starring Jonathan Groff

@checkinthingsout, no you don't. trust me being single is a good thing.

so I watched the remaining episodes and I have to say I wasted my time. No offense again, it's just not my show. I just wish they would show more struggles of the lgbt community such as racism, homelessness, more HIV/AIDS discussion, more diversity, actually have american actors if it's an american production, and anything else that I miss that whenever a gay drama pop ups every so often they forget to cover.

I just can't get over how stupid that main character white boy is. He's so desperate for dick he's making ignorant decisions. I don't like how the black guy is super super super light skinned and he's all muscular and dominating. I don't like how being that the show is thirty minutes, they can't make the most of that time. I don't like how the only character I kinda like, the reno 911 looking mustache guy, hardly ever gets screentime and his storyline is never concluded.

bah that's it. I'm done.

Geez man. It sounds like you want the plight of the entire LGBT community in a half hour show. That is the only thing I agree with, it should be an hour. Again, it is just a show about 3 homo guys and their friends. The white boy is stupid, the black guy is too light skinned, you have got to be kidding.

I wasn't aware the guy was black in the first place, why his being light-skinned matters in the second place, and how he's dominating in the third place(did that change in episode 5? Did he give his bearded lover the backhand or something?).

I do agree that the "white boy" is desperate for dick though, which makes me wonder if, again, that's how Sex and the City was like.

I don't know what I wanted from the show. If it's just good fun, I wish it was more on that level. If they want us to care about the characters, there just isn't enough there to make me do that - I want to know more about Dom, definitely, but don't know enough to care about the couple and the lead annoys me to death. I'll try episode 5 since it seems to have gotten rave reviews(though I'm hoping it's not just because of the sex scene).

I wish people would stop (and I know it's not you, Mouf) comparing this show to Sex and the City. It's not even on the same level. I just think that's some bs the PR department at HBO came up with to try to pull more viewers for this borefest.

I think the last episode was the best so far. Jonathan Groff's character started to develop in this last episode. I think the show is starting to pick up. It takes several episodes for character's to develop. Now the other character's need to start to develop. In a half hour episode it's difficult to develop. That is why it takes several episodes. I am looking forward to this Sunday's episode. I think the show is becoming a good show and just give it some time.

I like how the writers are trying to defend the "boring" storytelling. They said there were trying for "realistic portrayal of gay men" and talk about a bold-faced lie. A 20-something gay in SF has never seen an uncut penis before? Give me a fucking break here.

It's quite the tell that since HBO hasn't given the greenlight for a second season of Looking that this is gonna be a one-and-done show. If you are an HBO viewer, you know they usually greenlight another season at the latest, midway through a current season.

There's a web series, "Hunting Season," that follows the lives of four gay friends in NYC. It was online in 2012 and they're filming the second season now. I think that show should've been picked up by HBO instead. I think it's more entertaining. Plus, it seems like gay New York is mostly ignored. I feel like gay California gets more attention and it's unfair!

That show was painful to watch, like really really bad. It had some cool music in it tho :P

I'll get shit for mentioning this show's name [it even takes me to a dark place lmfao!] but "The A-List".

This is why we cant have nice things.

I watched the 5th episode of Looking, btw... and yes, of the 5, it's the best one yet - mainly because it actually let me learn more about at least 2 of the characters.

That said. The main character... I really, really don't like him. The way he talks to and about people(everything from Aids to his dates' abuella) rubs me in such a bad way that I agree wholeheartedly with reone - if I met a guy like that in real life, there's no way I could like him.

The guy he's dating can do better than go for a cute jerk.

I am with you 100% on this. The main character is not very likable, and I think it is because he is not very vulnerable. I think that is probably why I was drawn to Richie's character in the first place (plus the fact that he is SMOKIN hot). He just seems more real, and definitely deserves someone 100X cooler to fuck.

And IMO Jonathon Groff isnt THAT hot either, but I might be a sucker for latinos so I'm partial ha

^Actually reading into some internet discussions on Patrick, it makes a lot more sense. He really is an unlikable protagonist. I guess that is one for "realism in storytelling". Let's be candid here. "Indie" TV only works well if it's gritty and this show is too prudish [and I don't even mean with nudity] to actually go to those places.

I ran 5 episodes on HBO GO while I worked on the pc. I got my work done which is a good indicator that this boring piece of chump shit didn't grab my interest. Cliche scripts acted poorly with gutless whiney emotion and come on artist & florist, fucking non real world Castro District gays, yawn.

This is the best new show of the TV season and the best American show to ever feature gay lead characters. Period.

Episode 6 was great, imo. And the plot is moving much quicker now and characters are starting to taking shape. Actually building on story lines and creating some suspense. I can't wait for next week's episode tbh.

Getting better! I'd love to know if they brought in a new writer, consultant or something for the last two episodes. The dynamic of the show has changed. The pace, character development, even the overall structure is noticeably different. I actually want more.

I don't know about new writers. Consultants, maybe... But perhaps building the plot and storyline in this manner is intentional. Anyways, I am very excited to see what happens at the wedding, despite the fact that I'm rooting for Richie and Patrick to work.

That's a load of horse shit if I ever heard one. One good episode does not make it the savior of the modern masses.

I liked the 6th episode...not as much as the 5th...but still good. I really just don't like Augustine...he adds absolutely nothing to the show and his story line is stupid.

Wow you guys are a bunch of miserable queens I think this show is mad real a bunch of guys who are looking to find their way and I think the show been good since the 3rd episode.

The characters are meant to have a bunch of flaws like everybody in real life had flaws.
And I'm not Richie bandwagon homie was willing to call the relationship off as soon as it got a little rocky.

You guys got to understand it's also the leads first boyfriend or "love". He's still learning about himself and like all of us with our first live we are oblivious to how we make them feel.

I don't get the hate the show is extreamly acted well and the writing is superb(ie; we find out more about the main characters through their relationships and not with a bunch of exposition)

But honestly I'm rooting for Rich and the lead.

The lead is too much into his head and Rich is too much into his emotions they balance each other out perfectly. I'm down to have a legit convo about the show and the chachters that's why I loged back on to this site after years of hiatus but it seems like y'all just wanna see whether it's good or not.
