I feel like we're just going in circles. Everything that Rareboy mentioned in his most previous post is something I've already addressed time and again.

I feel that age of consent laws are respectable but aren't always accurate and honest. Rareboy and LuckyNumbah7 not only agree with it but feel that it's an absolute firm guidance for everyone. Let's just say that we agree to disagree. For the rest of today, I am too mentally exhausted to continue this petty tension between members; I'm preparing for my Disney world trip tomorrow and have much packing to do.

(Although, given more free time, I would perhaps like to address some of the more minor detailed points that Numbah7 brought up; since some of these are a decent counter-response to my own.)

At any rate, I stand by my statement regarding the original topic: 17/16-years-old is not against the law in Canada, since the age of consent there is 16. If they look too "twinkish", that may or may not be because they are 17 or 16. Asking to make sure, if you worry, is always a rule of thumb. Personally, however, I believe that society and legal regulations conditioning the OP to have to worry about something so humanly petty is rediculous, since, in actuality, everyone develops differently at different rates and in different ways. Having no understanding of flexibility in the line drawn adds to the roll of eyes, but that's just me. I abide by the rules, but I don't have to always like it.

I remember the guys in their 50s and 60s when I was bartending who got all slobbery and obsessed about guys who were in their early 20s...they gave me the creeps for the most part...with a few exceptions. Because the age of consent varies so much, but, generally, 18 is the accepted minimum to keep websites out of trouble with the law. Here in JUB, for instance, it is against JUB rules to post photos of anyone beneath the age off 18. It goes so far as photos of actors cannot be posted as long as the character being portrayed is under 18, even though the actor may have been in his 20s at the time of the photo.

For instance, it is possible to post photos of Daniel Radcliffe, but none of Harry Potter. In the books and movies (except for the epilogue in Deathly Hallows Part II), Harry was never older than 17 despite Daniel being older.

That's why '18' is the magic number.

Cuts out the middling teenage range which is/tends to be a grey area law-wise because partnership legality there depend on age and state. It's done that way to cut down on predation. "psychiatric disorder" is debatable. If you use "psychiatric disorder" too loosely/ EVERYONE has psychiatric disorder. I would change this statement to:

It sounds like the age of consent is really 18 in Canada which makes sense then. I think 14 or 16 is too young to consent for sex.

The Virgin Mary is often thought to have been 14 when she was betrothed to Joseph. Likewise Juliet when she forsook her cousin Paris for Romeo.
