OMG How terrible!

M10000, I know you find pictures of bodies scattered on the ground and blood spilled over pavements and people in pain and injury to be all fascinating and enjoyable, but it doesn't mean the rest of us do.

I must admit I also thought they were too graphic.

I say 'enjoyment' because you have a long history of discussing and debating grisly deaths, and from what you've said over the years you've watched videos of stuff I'd never watch in my life - such as people being decapitated, or that instance where I remember you said a race steward was cut in half or something. And yes Telstra has exactly the same morbid obsession that you do - I never watched the rubber tire vid but I vaguely remember the thread.

If you take so much issue with the word 'enjoyment' do you take issue with 'fascination'? Whatever it is both you and Telstra have, it's a rather callous and detached view of human suffering and emotion.

I don't know where those pictures came from but I don't feel it is appropriate to re-publish them. Especially on here

I do vaguely understand as in the depths of my own depression, there were morbid scenarios and a preoccupation with death/illness/dying, but in my case I always found it unpleasant and something I had to endure, and something that was more averse to me and a source of worry/neurosis etc.

M10000, I didn't mean to insult or offend you - simply that from my past experience those subjects tend to be 'dark places' for the mind to go and are best to be avoided - and that other subjects (like your excellent muscle guys and chest pics ) are SO much better and happier and 'life-affirming' places to be. :)

The FBI has said there are "no known additional threats" in Boston following the bombing of the marathon.

At a news briefing, officials said no bombs other than the two which exploded had been found, but that no-one was being held over the attack.

Three people were killed, including an eight-year-old boy, and more than 150 injured by the bombs.

Doctors treating the wounded have said a number of people have had pellets and "nail-like" fragments removed.

That all sounds awfully familiar. The IRA used to use nail bombs; they are often used by suicide bombers. Hopefully one of the 3 three killed was the bomber.

The guy who bombed the Olympics in Atlanta used the same approach. But this seems right out of the IED playbook.

I had it in my mind it was domestic right-wing terrorists, connected to the Tea Party.

Consider the clues: Patriot Day, and also April 15, the deadline for filing taxes? Plus...the fact that it's in Boston, where the original Tea party occcurred....

The arrest of the Saudi national is just too convenient. I'm not yet convinced that the Islamics are to blame.
But if it IS some home-grown (or, perhaps, not even all that home grown) TEA PARTY fanatic, will we ever be allowed to find out? Or will there be enough Republicans running the media to make sure the guy is completely protected from national scrutiny - or at least have his connections protected from public disclosure?

But, as hard as they might try that tactic, word WOULD certainly get out.

Hopefully one of the 3 three killed was the bomber.
I somehow doubt it, though. Haven't the identity of the three killed people been vetted fairly well? None of them sound like they would have been terrorists, though I assume all the possibilities are being investigated.

No doubt the bomber had removed himself from the scene before the blasts.

I keep saying "he/himself/him" instead of "they" because these things are almost always done by guys.

How dare you say i enjoy human suffering LOL.
That is a joke.

I think you enjoy chopping chicken heads off for fun.

Johann,
Do not say I am overly fascinated with death.
Thats about as accurate as the person who said I was 'medically unable to leave the house' (which is also not true)

(I hate when people analyze others over the internet as if they have met them).

People analyze me about smell is wrong and i had a laugh or two.

I really hate that I can't feel more for this horrible situation, but Newtown and Aurora really did me in. Is it possible to become desensitized to these traumas? I just have to turn off the TV. :(

I agree to desensitization. I am rather surprised that most around me are just "yup that sucks". No definite outrage, no outward emotion, no outward fear even.... just resignation.

Yes desensitization is the right word.

I can remember the first time a watched porn.
It felt really really special to watch it for the first time but not anymore.

Same thing with horrible news on TV.
Once you see the horrible news often from Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Tsunami, Earth quakes ... etc, you sort of got used to it.

I wish I could become desensitized because when I see a child has been hurt or killed it kicks my ass. Once it gets in...It takes forever to get out of my system and I tear up thinking about it over and over. I hate it when a child is killed....or thinking about how many other kids have to deal with the fear....I have a strong nurturing/protective instinct in me and even the thought of a child being harmed is very hard for me to deal with.

Yeah, Newtown really did a number on me. I cried for many days. I just couldn't help but remember when my children were in Kindergarten and how beautiful they were at that age, then tried to inagine 20 of them being shot in the head multiple times in front of their friends. And what their mummies and daddies went through. To this very day I still tear up for those poor little souls. Anguish for anyone hurts me, but children hurt me the most. I don't know why.

Just saw this as I got out the shower. It was a fertilizer plant. We have plant explosions here (Texas) frequently, though this may be magnified and even taken out of proportion due to the Boston incident and the fact that there are reports of some 100+ deaths. :(
They're not reporting many deaths, but I feel it will increase drastically. Deaths well over 100 wouldn't surprise me in the least. Perhaps even approaching 200. Collateral damage was mind-numbing. Thank God it wasn't anything like the April 1947 Texas City explosion, which is one of the most incredible industrial disasters ever to happen in the world. (The Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, India was far worse - and I'm sure there is world history of at least one improperly-constructed dam collapsing and killing hundreds of thousands.)

When I got texts from my friend, I thought more bomb explosions had went off, but it seems like the suspects were hurling explosives at the police during the wild car chase.
