I just don't understand why people don't "masculine." My thoughts about the use of "straight-acting" morally or what have you aside, "masculine" just sounds so much less awkward. To me it's like someone saying "woman acting" instead of feminine. It just sounds odd.

"Straight-acting" makes it sound like you're purposefully putting on the facade of being a straight man, which may apply to closeted men who overcompensate for their sexuality, but it makes no sense to me when used to describe openly gay men.

Getting rid of stereotypes by asserting stereotypes; I love it. Because all straight acting guys consider themselves masculine ^^. What a silly proposition.

Whether they do or not, a lot of people perceive "straight" as masculine.

"Other people who wrongly assume you need more sequins than Liberace in order to be gay, wrongly assume I am straight.

I think that's the answer. Instead of "straight acting," we should just go with the acronym WATBAS. Wrongly Assumed To Be A Straight.

And the of course the equally possible WATBAG for straight or bi guys.

That would certainly be more accurate, while being much longer to type. ;)

No all straight guys DO NOT feel they are masculine. jeebus who DO you actually know?

Read his post again. I'll pre-accept your apology magnanimously ^_^

You kidding? "WATBAG" even sounds appropriate, what with ending with "bag" and everything ^_^

Wherever would I possibly meet any straight people...

I'm always deeply suspicious of guys who live in the gay village and then want to pronounce on who is right and wrong about the correct way to be gay.

I'm always fairly certain they have forgotten what the real world - where most of us homos do in fact live - actually is.

Yeah, no, I was just associating exclusively with straight people until my 25th year, and a solid 90% of my VERY MANY friends are straight. Wherever would I possibly meet any straight people...

Hmmmm........

Lack of reading comprehension, or deliberate deception?

OH come on. Everyone lives "in the real world," and he's not telling you HOW to be gay.

^^Rolyo is quite loud and proud about living in the Chicago gaybourhood currently.

Fact.

And that means what? He's been transported to a different planet?

He has his opinion you have yours, frankly the SA guys in here are the ones insisting we all accept their "definitions."

I know Rolyo will agree with this - I don't care what you call yourself, do what you please - but be a fucking man about the consequences of your decisions.

You call yourself that - some people are going to be offended, some are going to be amused, most don't give a fuck.

Except the ones who started and posted dozens of times the preceding thread, and also in this one... lots of fuck-giving, I think you'll find.

Never mind, keep trying. ..|

It means with all due respect to Rolyo personally, that someone living in a gay neighborhood is free to make a ruleset or a Bible on how to be gay, and it may or may not translate very well into practical reality for people in different parts of the country.

I did not read it as a personal attack on Rolyo, the point itself was valid. "I'm going to force people to recognize that I am gay" sounds great and proud, as one made-up example. It could also get you beaten up or worse. And you're from Texas, I'm sure you know this as well as I do. (At least outside Austin, lol.)

LOL - like the massive whine fest about "HOW IIIIIII FEEEEEELLLLLLL!"

I find it funny that you are apparently unable to distinguish between what happens on a net opinion board and that "real word" you seemed so fond of, explains a lot actually.

Plus I guarantee you, most people don't give a fuck. Half of this is whiners whining about not wanting to be faggots, some shit stirring, some arguing just for arguments sake, a few actual guys who mean well, and a shit load nothing.

Such is life on the net.
