  • I don't like it, and i disapprove of those who use it

    Votes: 24 27.0%
  • I don't object to it, but i don't identify with it

    Votes: 23 25.8%
  • I identify as straight-acting

    Votes: 27 30.3%
  • I don't fully understand the term

    Votes: 1 1.1%

  • Total voters
    89
  • Poll closed .
And people wonder why there are some who dislike labels and choose not live with one...

^I voted that I don't like to use it, but with this nugget I just added it to my profile. Can never be too safe. ;)

I think I'm going to quit.
If you can't understand that it is not gay to be more "feminine"
and that it is not straight to be more "masculine"
because you, the one who identifies as SA, are in fact gay and masculine (i.e. outside the stereotype)
and that using SA perpetuates that false stereotype that actually works against you and the other more masculine gays
but also to the straight guys who are less "masculine"
because languages reflects and influences our perceptions
then you just won't

about the poll,

i don't hate people who use it, because i think many use it without realizing what they're saying, but I find it confusing that some people defend it so much, as if it were essential to them somehow, and of those I guess i "disaprove"

Honestly I think to poll is built in such a way that you can't just feel against the term - but have to either feel against the people who use it or just "don't resent it", which is kind of limiting

It is disheartening to see nearly 20% of votes agreeing that somehow masculinity is tied into pretending to be straight, or pretending to like vagina in front of others for their approval. We should all be voting on how we disprove of such an internalized-homophobic statement.

Aren't options 1 and 3 the same?

Getting rid of stereotypes by asserting stereotypes; I love it. Because all straight acting guys consider themselves masculine ^^. What a silly proposition.

I've saw this go both ways.

Gay guys saying they are gay because they do "gay" things and just want to shop all day instead of play a sport or like cars, etc.

I think that is the cusp of the problem for me. The idea that people who are perceived as straight acting or the more (apparently) politically correct term of masculine are hiding from themselves or others. I hide nothing but unless I am meeting you at a gay event or bar then without fail people are surprised when I say I am gay. It is not that I hide but that people form preconceived notions of what is and what is not deemed hetro or homo sexual. I cannot control what others think so therefore it is an issue I choose not to worry about.

Perhaps the poll should have a selection that reads "I am identified by others as straight acting" lol....... shall we replace one or three?

This!

Plus two more choices:
"I go along with it out of convenience.
Or
"I like messing with their heads so they realise "straight acting" is meaningless."

Yes they are. So for people grasping at straws with "stats", this poll was doomed(or rigged) to begin with.

I don't self identify as "straight acting", but I have no problem if others choose to. If someone calls themselves "SA' or advertises for "SA" hook ups, I don't see any "self hate" or "internalised homophobia"...............I just see someone who isn't Fem or have a sexual interest in guys who are Fem...that's all.
It's not intended as a put down to guys who are fem, it's just identifying guys they are interested in.

What amuses me the most about this term is that if your picture and mannerisms can't convey that you are whatever SA means, the term won't help either.

Yeah, I noticed our youfiad's avatar, too. :(

I'd like to tell him to learn how to wear a hat like a man, and for crying out loud, go eat a sandwich, but I'm not that mean. :)
