I don't believe the "it's just a preference" thing. I think it's bullshit but I also don't think many of us understand why we are attracted to what we are attracted to. Many guys will date a latino guy of a certain color but won't date a black guy of the same complexion just because he is black. If it's skin color, why do some guys go for white guys but not asians?

It really makes no sense to me and there have been so many threads on here and no one has been able to give an adequate explanation for it.

Different facial features!Different facial structures! Its not just skin tone! hair,nose size,nose width,lip fullness,eye shape,and more...

Why is it that minorities are all ugly(ier) than the white guys? OK, so cupcake might say it's based off physical attributes. Fine. But that's still something that's tied innately to race. So it's race based. You won't ever find those black guys as hot as those white guys. JUST because they're black.

Can't equate age and weight issues with race. Age and weight are things that change. Race doesn't. You're born with it.

I do get the physical traits argument to a limited extent though. I'm 1.89 m tall and 100 kg, but I like guys bigger than me. You don't get a lot of that in south Asia or east Asia. But there are some fuckin' huge guys built like trucks from within different parts of China and India, and I notice them right away.

But also, that isn't a rule either, so a smaller guy could get my attention too.

I don't know if I would reject a white-only dater because of his self esteem, but I honestly wouldn't understand how he didn't see all the goodness all around him. That would be at least a big gap between us, if not a total turn off, and no I would probably not date him.

Cupcake that's a decent question. However I think it's comparing apples and pears. It's perfectly natural (IMO) for someone to date within their race exclusively.
It's almost primal to do so.

OMG now that I actually think! You guys are calling these guys racist!? I know someone who is in fact racist and he is nothing like these guys... He is Black and does not date blacks and talks bad about them and says racist things about his own kind and he is the darkest guy you may ever meet! He was made fun of in school because we went to Middle and High school together He was made fun of because his dark skin (the blacks were the main ones making fun of him) And now he is the most distance from his race and self hating.... I think there are people out there who are racist like that (like my friend) but Musicman and Ethan are not racist or self loathing IMO (don't wanna put his name out there like that though.. although he knows its true he might get pissed if I post his government lol)

ALSO I have always wondered this question too. What if your mixed? I say I am black but I am actually mixed... My dad = Mexican and Filipino and My Mother= African American.... So I have always figured if I date a Latino,Asian,or a Black none of those are out of my race since I am mixed with all three of those...

Actually, I'm second generation Canadian, so, I identify AS Canadian with various roots, but I guess I'm closest to my Celtic side.

According to your arguments, and that of those who agree with you, they have to be racist. Someone who only exclusively dates one race is a racist.

I agree with Doyen as well. I don't think anyone is wrong for feeling the way they feel. I wouldn't go so far to call this "preference" racism, but it IS inextricably tied to race. All this about facial structure, size of lips and type of hair, blah blah blah, yes, they are physical attributes that are tied to race. You can't avoid that, but I wouldn't call someone racist because of it. I think the difference lies in how we treat other people and whether or not we have superior/inferior mindsets. As long as there's none of that, I don't think it's racism.
As for the question "why?" It could have something to do with the media and how different races are portrayed. From an early age, we start forming our own ideas of what's attractive to us personally, and what we like might be a reflection of what we're exposed to. I'm not saying it is, just giving a go at addressing the question.

The facial feature thing doesnt work b/c there has been so much mixing of races that for many blacks, latinos and asians, there is little difference in physical features.

So if a black guy has the same physical features as a white person except for complexion, he is still disqualified?

And it doesnt make you a racist if you exclusively date or fuck one race but it DOES mean your racial preferences are mostly likely grounded in racist thinking passed on by society, media, customs, parents, or whatever.

The thing is, it is very hard to find a white guy and a black guy who look similar. I would say impossible.

Even in a mix guy of black and white usually takes on a dominant look of one or the other race.

Wentworth Miller is half black half white, and he looks completely and utterly white.
