(ohmygoodness, to so so many snide remarks I must reply)
Perhaps your spelling then would have to do with another element which is alive and well which is laziness and a slovenly approach to writing?)
In the spirit of laziness to which I have grown so accustomed, You are black and I'm read, wrought, I mean "red".
I wasn't being "snide", a bit cunty perhaps but not intentionally nasty any more than was indicated IMO.
BTW, MY spelling? I'm thinking YOUR spelling! (Is it just me?)
Context man, context. When I must write well, as in it's a requirement, I muddle through well enough despite my beastie disposition. It's just a waste of a finite resource when it comes to things like...oh, I don't know, posting in a porn forum. I try to be legible, but beyond that...life, ya know. I'm quite happy to report that sometimes I just have better things to do than pour over every apostrophe and obsess over minutia.
I don't recall mentioning "intelligence" so that would be something you have inferred from what I wrote. But perhaps that would be a reading comprehension issue (or one of self esteem) on your part?
Oh honey chops, It ain't all about you! I know I fluffed your mojo by quoting only you (you were handy, I was being lazy) but the intelligence observation was all my own creation based on some things I inferred from other posts. Hope you aren't too shattered.
Casual? Informal? I would say that everyone here for the most part is communicating in their informal voice. But for some, perhaps "informal" means tea on the lawn while for others, its wiping burrito sauce off their chin?
I'm a sashimi in a canoe kind of informal guy. Funnily enough I think I'm a prone to pretension... You Mr ds have it mastered. Well not really, you are just more showy than I am I suppose. I try to reign it in a bit...really!
Yes. I know nothing about text messaging. Your deductive reasoning needs honing.
You know, I get that.
Again, returning to reading comphrension, what would be nefarious would not be text messaging or IM. Instead it would be that within those modes of communcation one runs the risk of getting stuck at a certain level.
How exactly does one become "stuck"? No, I think at some point a preference develops and people decide that in the end they are communicating and not writing the Iliad.
Did I mention in any of my posts about a baby raised in the woods by wild turkeys? I would think you need to go back and re-read what was actually written and then go to any illiterate home where the children know how to speak.
I myself was raised by hippies so just a notch above turkeys. I maintain that language is NOT natural, it is an artificial construct and doesn't come to anyone "naturally" AT ALL. English is open to interpretation and 'evolution', unlike some people. English is a living language and always changing...and like blow-jobs something most people butcher IMPE.
Would it be the person who makes a post on a subject (as I did) or one who breaks that post down line by line in a hostile manner who would be obsessed with the subject (or something)?
Sorry, I wasn't meaning to be hostile, just contrary. Blame the hippies. If it smells bad to me I tend to say "yuk!"
Oh, that's just lazy IMO!
You'll have to determine who would be the monkey, I imagine, before you could know if I were serious or jesting. And that may drive you apes.
I'm very much in touch with my chimp side, classes don't start 'till after Labour Day so I'm cutting myself a bit of slack. I'm quite happy to role play, I'm just not sufficiently worried to give it any more consideration than it warrants. Porn forum, remember?
If all the PhDs that you know speak that way on a regular basis, I would begin to fill out the transfer papers at once. Or simply seek out other mentors and friends.
Alas my friends are a bunch of uneducated louts, like myself. The only PhD's I hang with are by necessity...the school thing. Necessity makes whore of us all I guess.
The worst offender of the PhD illiterate crowd is tenured so asking him to transfer is going to be futile. I'm not thinking of moving as I know it's hard to park at Harvard and the commute is a killer. It's my lazy streak again I guess.
"Fuk U" may be clear. But so, too, is English of a higher caliber to other people. I can make a "fuck you" whether done in seven or in five thousands letters. But sometimes, in the latter message of "fuck you", one learns a great deal more along the way.
My point was (and is) sometimes "fuk u" is PERFECTLY clear. Why waste endless verbiage to say what 4 letters conveys with simple clarity and brilliance? Unless of course you have noting better to do and your 'audience' has wet hair and the time wade through all of the excess extrapolating while their hot curlers do their thing.
Granted, a 40s film has its tone. But what some people forget is that many people BACK THEN really did speak that way. In fact, even today, I speak that way far moreso than "Fuck, really?" ever comes out of my mouth or off my finger tips. Sadly, though, one can get attacked for such since "Fuck'n A" is so much (get my junior high cap) "cooler".
I'm actually a HUGE 40's-50's film buff BTW. As for "cooler" I don't think that has been part of the lexicon since kids in junior high parted their hair in the middle and listened to Cindy Lauper. Just an observation.
As soon as I hear someone speaking the work "fuck" (...) I simply figure that they searched for a word but didn't have the vocabulary skills to find it.
When I see the work "fuck" I consider the context...like here, a porn forum. I like the word "fuck", perfectly serviceable. I can also site about a dozen literary examples in well written books that have actually been published...has me thinking it's not the indicator or illiteracy some might insist.
One man's pomposity is another man's chicken McNuggets.
Say it isn't so! You don't really eat those things? Do you?
(I must sit now for I am drained from all the personal attack
You typed all that while standing..on your head?
Come on and get some skin. I have some extra on my bag to spare. You're welcome to it. It wasn't a personal attack. Nothing "personal" at all. Not much of an attack either. I just strongly disagreed with most of what you said IN THOSE TWO POSTS.
If you genuinely feel "personally attacked" by my post, then I apologise. It's a harsh world now that even we monkeys have T3 access to the internet. Nothing is sacred anymore...not even Knights of the English language. I do my level best to avoid personal attacks, they are usually pointless and cheap (something I try not to be). If they were "personal" I'm sure the JUB gods would have pointed that out to me... "personally". I do tend to play by they rules if nothing else.
Just as a point of reference, I did find your two post a bit...harsh (and A few other verbs come to mind). I'm thinking you might not see it?
Peace,

else can't find a post to be lacking in language skills?
